"A Personal Word from Artie"

Wow! We continue to get registrations in the mail and online each day.  We currently have over 100 folks pre-registered!  This is VERY exciting because we know that the vast majority of our registrations are still yet to come!
  • Last year, we had 325 folks who attended.
  • Already this year, we have registrants from Australia, Canada, Lebanon, and China!
  • Our goal is to have at least 425 folks this year.
  • I believe we will exceed this figure.

2013 National PE Institute Morning Keynotes

Morning Keynote Sampler: If this is your first National PE Institute, you are in store for a great treat!  For example, each day we have an inspirational morning keynote.  Here are a few examples:

Monday's Morning Keynote

Title: "There is a PE App for That!"
Keynoter: Dr. Helena Baert, SUNY Cortland, NY
Description:  This presentation will explore current uses of technology in physical education with a focus on the enhancement of mobile technologies such as tablets, iPads, and mobile phones. However, while instructional technology can be a useful tool, it should always be viewed as a means, not the end. Example:
  • How can technology be used to create developmentally appropriate skill progressions?
  • How does technology enhance learning and teaching?
  • How can we ensure that technology addresses student learning?
  • Can the inclusion of technology actually diminish or hinder skill development?

The Other Four Morning Keynotes Include:

  • Joey Feith (Canada): "How the Internet is Shaping the Future of Physical Education"
  • Jean Blaydes (Action Based Learning): "This is Your Brain on PE"
  • Michele Rusnak (Texas): "Ten Little Things that Make a Big Difference"
  • Dr. Missy Parker (Ireland): "Physical Literacy and Physical Education"

2013 National PE Institute Afternoon Keynotes

Afternoon Keynote Sampler: We also bring closure to each day with a reflective Closing Keynote! Here are a few examples:

Monday's Afternoon Keynote

Title: "Being a Physical Education Advocate: What's Needed Now and Why"
Keynoter: Judy LoBianco, South Orange-Maplewood Schools, New Jersey
Description:  Being an advocate is not someone else's responsibility. Being a part of this profession means taking on the much needed role as advocate for the profession. Example:
  • This means using your influence to both those outside and within our field.
  • How can you learn the tools needed to step outside your gymnasium door and become a "Champion of Physical Education?"
  • Are you comfortable speaking to your colleagues, principal, school board or politician?
  • Learn more about the resources you need to catapult our profession forward... One person... One professional at a time.

The Other Four Closing Keynotes Include:

  • Dr. Stevie Chepko (South Carolina): "Why Teach Skills? Critical Times & Tasks Every PE Teacher Should Worry About"
  • Brian Dauenhauer (Colorado): "PE by the Numbers: Making Data Work for You"
  • Larry Satchwell (Georgia): "Is Your PE Program Teetering? Creating a Healthy Balance for All Children & Youth"
  • Dr. Joanne Owens-Nauslar (Nebraska): "Let's Move It, Move It, Move It... How?"
