A Note From the Booster Club...
It has come to our attention that communication has gone out to some or all of you from some parents regarding an alternative prom.  In that communication it is stated that revenues that exceed expenses will be donated to the school's boosters.  On behalf of the PVHS Sharks Boosters I would like to inform you that the Boosters has no involvement with this event and will not be accepting any funds from the organizers of the event, nor does the Boosters take any position with regard to the event. Thank you very much.

Peter Goplerud, President PVHS Booster Club

Testing has begun!
PV High Students' testing season is in full swing! FCAT retakes are complete and 10th grade Reading went smoothly on Monday. A positive, low stress environment is possible because of our excellent staff, lead by our testing coordinator, Mrs. Hrach, and our many volunteers! Thanks to Vernice Magiske, Pat Devlin, Deborah Serrahn, Barbara Sabo, and Laura Kusumoto for starting the week. Many of our students will be continue taking FCAT, End of Course (EOC) and/or Advanced Placement (AP) exams in April and May and we are in need of additional proctors.  Proctoring is an important responsibility and invaluable to the testing process. Up to 8 volunteers are required daily.  Reserved parking, hot coffee in the media center, and a significant savings in substitute teacher costs are your reward!!

Please consider volunteering for one or more time slots.  High school proctors may bring in books/ipads/etc to read during the testing.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated!!

You must be an approved volunteer in order to help.  If you are not currently approved, visit the PVHS website and click the "Volunteer App" link on the left hand side.  If questions, contact Susan Snyder: bssnyder12@aol.com

EXAM DATES:  April 14-May 23

Baccalaureate
The Interfaith Baccalaureate Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Tuesday May 27th at 6 pm.  In contrast to the large graduation, this service offers our students a quieter, more intimate setting for reflection of their past four years of high school.  It will include music, advice from faculty members and a pastoral message. All seniors and their families are encouraged to attend.  A cupcake reception will immediately follow in the courtyard.  Seniors should wear their graduation gowns.  (Parents this is a great time to take photos of your student and their friends in their gowns in a relaxed setting.)

The 88 Keys Campaign is Still Going Strong!
The PVHS Music Department has been off to a tremendous start with the 88 Keys Campaign. The goal of the campaign is to raise money for the purchase of a grand piano and for the Music Department's needs. Such programs will complement the school's existing music offerings by bringing in new musical exposures and experiences for students. It is hoped that the 88 Keys Campaign will increase awareness and participation in these fundraising efforts.

Donations of any amount are welcome. Donors contributing $100 or more will be recognized on a special "88 Keys" plaque to be displayed in the school's Music Department. Each key is designated for a certain donation amount. So far, more than 20 donors have put us more than halfway towards getting a piano already! If interested in donating, please fill out a contribution form which has been posted on the PVHS home page, and contact Pro Arte President Charis Wang at iamcharis.ev@gmail.com or the PVHS Music Director Jennifer Christensen at jennifer.christensen@stjohns.k12.fl.us for more details.

It was another dominant first quarter and first half for the Sharks against a young but improving Mandarin team. Senior Cody Legeza scored a hat trick in the first quarter and fellow senior Garrett Boyle slammed in two. Goals by Jason Randolph, Rob Peeters and Evan Weiner gave the Sharks an 8-0 halftime lead. Many of the starters rested in the 2nd half and other players got the opportunity to play both sides of the field and add to the score including Miles Silva, Marshall Few, Cord Bishop, Ben Buchanan, Grant Newell and Ryan Wiele. Goalies Jake Anderson and Colin Peaks combined for 4 saves. For the Mustangs, senior Jonathon Dister led scoring with two goals. Goalie Brent Gordon was credited with 9 saves. 4-10-14 PV Sharks Take Charge in the 4th to Beat Lake Brantley
On Thursday, the Sharks faced their toughest test since an OT loss to Jupiter 2 weeks ago. PV hosted the Lake Brantley Patriots and it was a great start for the Sharks with Gray Larson forcing the turnover and feeding it to Miles Silva for the first goal. Jason Randolph added one to put the Sharks up 2-0 but the Patriots jumped in with a goal from Alex Preddy. Logan Taucher extended the lead with an unassisted goal but Lake Brantley tied it up to end the first quarter. Scoring slowed down in the 2nd quarter as both defenses ruled for most of the time. Silva and Garrett Boyle tallied to help PV to a slim 5-4 halftime lead.  The Patriots came out with two consecutive scores in the 3rd quarter and from there the teams traded scores. Twice Lake Brantley was EMO and couldn't find the net. With a 7-6 lead to start the 4th, Eric Applegate and Cody Legeza quickly padded the lead, 9-6. Guerrina narrowed the gap to 9-7 but 2 more PV goals sealed the win, 11-7. 16 seniors will be honored on Saturday night as the Sharks face Fleming Island in their final regular season game.

4-12-14 PV Sharks Celebrate Senior Night with a 12-4 Win
16 seniors played their final regular season home game on Saturday night against Fleming Island. It was a quiet first quarter with just two goals scored by Cody Legeza and Rob Peeters. More action in the 2nd quarter with Peeters adding two for a hat trick and Ben Buchanan, Eric Applegate and Legeza adding to the tally. The Golden Eagles got in the scoring column with goals by Devan Marquis, Hayden LaVangie and Josh Gracia. With a 7-3 halftime lead, the senior class was honored and then it was back to work. Second half goals by Peeters, Applegate, Grant Newell , Ryan Wiele and Buchanan helped seal a 12-4 win. LMS Evan Weiner also gets kudos for 7 ground balls, 6 forced turnovers and 2 assists on the night. Colin Peaks and Fleming Island's Ryan Kelly both had several great saves. Ponte Vedra will face Nease in district play on Tuesday night at Bartram Trail HS.

Junior Varsity: Providence On Monday, April 7, 2014, the JV Boys Lacrosse team earned their third consecutive shut-out (and fifth of the season) with a 17-0 win at Providence High School.  Once again, the Sharks played aggressive defense all over the field, limiting the Stallions to only a few shots on goal.  Offensively, the Sharks used precise passing to forge a balanced attack, with ten Sharks scoring or assisting on goals.  Jude Kuhn (1 assist), Matt Keeler (4 assists), and Jack Woeste each had hat tricks.  McLain Johnson, John Santillo,, and Marshall Few (2 assists) each netted two goals and Eric Erhard and Quinn Larson each scored once.  While Andrew O'Dare was kept out of the net, he assisted on two of Jack Woeste's goals.

Bartram
In their final district game of the season, the JV Boys Lacrosse team traveled to Bartram Trail on Wednesday, April 9, and brought home a 14-3 victory.  The Sharks continued their unselfish play with eleven different players either scoring or assisting on goals.  Cord Bishop lead all scorers with 5 points on 3 goals and 2 assists.  Jude Kuhn scored 3 goals, Clay Welch (1 assist) and Landon Taucher had 2 goals each, and Hal Swan, John Santillo, Quinn Larson, and Eric Erhard each scored once.  McLain Johnson, Andrew O'Dare, and Marshall Few provided assists.

Lake Brantley
On Thursday, April 10, the JV Boys Lacrosse Team used their trademark pressure defense and balanced offense to complete an undefeated season with a 16-1 win over Lake Brantley in the Shark Tank.  The Sharks controlled the time of possession and got goals from 10 different players.  Cord Bishop continued his stellar play with 4 goals.  The Sharks got 2 goals each from McLain Johnson (1 assist, and the 200th goal of the season), Jack Woeste, and Quinn Larson (1 assist), and 1 goal each from Hal Swan (1 assist), John Santillo, Andrew O'Dare (2 assists), Clay Welch, Jude Kuhn, and Landon Taucher (1 assist).

Season Overall
Congratulations to the 2014 JV Boys Lacrosse team and coaches Frank DeMasi, Jim Applegate, Jake O'Keefe, and T.J. Duggin for an undefeated 2014 season!  The JV Boys Sharks finished the season 15-0, trailed only once all season, and outscored their opponents 208 - 22.  The Sharks' success was the result of great coaching of hard-working players dedicated to team victories, rather than individual accolades.  They played a relentlessly aggressive style all over the field that allowed them to press the attack when they had the ball and cause turnovers all over the field when they did not.  The Sharks won the face-offs and ground balls, dominated the time of possession, and limited their opponents' scoring opportunities.  The success of the 2014 JV Boys Lacrosse team came not from the goals, assists, great D, and wins.  It came from watching the players pick each other up after a bad play and cheer for each other after a good play.  Congratulations!

We would really like to see maximum participation by the coaching and administrative staffs of each school, the parents of your student-athletes, and your booster clubs. Please impress upon your staff and support that this is a direct benefit to your program and will be proportional to their participation.

We will have more information on registration and ensuring the success of this event. Please plan to come out and join for us a great day of fun and fellowship for a great cause!
