Varsity: 3-31-14 Varsity Sharks Win Squeaker against Hagerty Huskies The PV Sharks traveled to Oviedo on Monday night to make-up a postponed Saturday matchup with the Hagerty Huskies. The Sharks with a solid start in the first quarter, paced by two goals by junior Ryan Wiele and one apiece from Ben Buchanan and Miles Silva. Leading 4-1 after the first quarter, the Sharks added three more goals in the 2nd to increase the lead to 7-2 but then the offense went flat and defense struggled as the Huskies added two more to close the gap 7-4 at the half. A total momentum shift in the third quarter as Ponte Vedra watched their lead evaporate. Hagerty dominated with 5 unanswered goals, thanks in part to a hat trick by Chris Carpenter. Down by 2 starting the 4th, Jason Randolph, Logan Taucher and Garrett Boyle scored to put PV back on top. Goalie Conor Peaks had a huge save with 6:31 left, but Hagerty tied it up moments later. Silva added his 4th goal and Cody Legeza popped one in to up the divide to 12-10. A very determined Hagerty offense wasn't done and closed the gap to one. Goals by Boyle and RJ Garcia once again extended the lead to 14-11, but the Huskies fought back with two more goals to again close the gap to 1. With time running out, the Sharks escaped with a 14-13 win. The Sharks hit the road again on Wednesday, traveling south for a matchup with Melbourne Catholic. Miles Silva (4-1-4), Ryan Wiele (3-0-3), Garrett Boyle (2-2-4), RJ Garcia (1-1-2), Jason randolph (1-1-2), Cody legeza (1-1-2), Logan taucher (1-1-2), Grey Larsen (0-1-1), Alex Franco (0-1-1) Colin Peaks (7 saves) 4/2/14 PV Varsity Sharks Face Melbourne Central Catholic. The Varsity Sharks traveled to Melbourne Wednesday to take on the Hustlers. It was a highly anticipated match-up as Melbourne was undefeated at home and had only once loss. The Hustlers got on the board first, but a hat trick by Miles Silva helped the Sharks to a 5-2 first quarter lead. A strong and cohesive Sharks defense and the return of middie Augie Relihan were key factors in limiting the Hustlers to just one goal in the 2nd quarter. Cody Legeza contributed two and Ryan Wiele and RJ Garcia also tallied to extend the lead to 9-3 at intermission. Ponte Vedra added 3 more in the 3rd quarter and 2 in the 4th to cap a strong 15-4 win. Goalies Colin Peaks and Jake Anderson combined for 8 saves. RJ Garcia (3-1-4), Miles Silva (4-0-4) Garrett Boyle (2-2-4), Cody Legeza (2-1-3), Jason Randolph (1-1-2), Ryan Wiele (2-0-2), Logan taucher (1-1-2), Evan Weiner (0-2-2), Rob Peeters (0-1-1) Colin Peaks and Jake Anderson - 4 saves each 4-4-14 PV Sharks Hand Orlando's Bishop Moore 13-7 loss After two road games, the Sharks returned home to face The Hornets from Bishop Moore Friday night. Bishop Moore popped in three quick goals to take the early lead, but the Sharks didn't panic and answered with goals from Eric Applegate, Miles Silva and Ryan Wiele to knot it up 3-all after one. A goal by Bishop Moore's Evan Kachris started off the 2nd quarter but that was all the PV defense and goalie Colin Peaks allowed in the 2nd quarter. Silva, Rob Peeters, Logan Taucher and Garrett Boyle added goals to give PV a 7-4 halftime lead. The lead was stretched to 10-5 in the third and the Sharks were able to work in a variety of players in the 4th quarter. Boyle was high scorer for the team with 3 goals and 2 assists. Goals PV : Boyle (3), Randolph (2), Silva (2) Applegate, Wiele, Peeters, Taucher Legeza and Weiner (1 each) Peaks 7 Saves Bishop Moore: Kachris (2), McKenna (2), Stricker (1), Moran (1), Bitz (1) Kucera 12 Saves 4-5-14 Varsity takes 4th Win in 6 days With less than a 16 hour turnaround, the Sharks were back on the field hosting Winter Park on Saturday. It was a quick start with the Sharks jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter with goals by Eric Applegate, Jason Randolph, Logan Taucher and Ben Buchanan. The Wildcats got on the board to start the 2nd quarter but a pass picked off by Cody Legeza was fed to Logan Taucher to answer back. The Sharks forced several turnovers during the first half and hit the break with a 6-3 lead. Both Colin Peaks and Nick Beattie were impressive in goal, turning away several big shots. Eric Applegate paced the Sharks in the 3rd quarter with two goals, including one great save in front of the net that he aptly converted. Miles Silva scored two goals in the 4th to build the lead to 13-7 With less than 1:30 to go, exhaustion set in and Winter Park took advantage with three quick goals. But that was as close as the Wildcats would get. Final PV 13-10. The Sharks head to Providence Monday night. Eric Applegate (4-1-5) Logan Taucher (2-1-3), Miles Silva (2-1-3), Jason Randolph (1-3-4), Cody Legeza (1-1-2), Garrett Boyle (1-1-2), Ben Buchanan (1-0-1), Marshall Few (1-0-1) Peaks -6 Saves
Junior Varsity: Bolles On April 1, 2014, the JV Boys Lacrosse team raced out to 10-2 lead in the first half and rode a stout second half defense to a 10-3 win over Bolles on the Bulldogs' home turf. Marshall Few got the scoring started with an untouched length-of-the-field sprint that left him at point-blank range. Reid Smith lead all scorers with 4 goals. Cord Bishop had 2 goals and Matt Keeler (in his first game back from injury), Jude Kuhn, and Andrew O'Dare each had 1 goal. The defense, led by Greg Celani, Braxton and Austin Silva, and Jacob Reeves limited the Bulldogs' shots and goalies Jake Anderson, Bronson Holley, and Declan Ford turned away the majority of the goals they saw.
Melbourne On April 2nd, the JV Boys Lacrosse team shook off their scoreless second half against Bolles in an 18-0 win at Melbourne Central Catholic High School. Greg Celani (D) and Mclain Johnson (A) netted their first goals of the season and were among 10 Sharks to score at least one goal. The Goalies had a quiet night as the Middies and Defenders did not allow Melbourne to get a shot on goal until the 4th Quarter. Andrew O'Dare lead all scorers with 4 goals, and Clay Welch, Reid Smith, and Landon Taucher each had 2.
Bishop Moore On Friday April 4, the Bishop Moore Hornets brought a tough zone defense to the Shark Tank in a battle against the JV Boys Lacrosse team. The Sharks were held to a 3-0 lead at the half, before pulling away for an 8-0 victory, their second consecutive shut-out. The Sharks displayed a relentless defensive effort whenever and wherever the Hornets had the ball, and when the Hornets took a shot, goalie Bronson Holley turned it away. Matt Keeler lead all scorers with a hat trick and 1 assist, Andrew O'Dare had 2 goals and an assist, and Cord Bishop and Clay Welch each had 1 goal and 1 assist. Marshall Few had an unassisted goal and Hal Swan had 1 assist.
This Week On Monday April 7th, the JV boys head inland to take on Providence and then head west on Wednesday, April 9th for a rematch against Bartram Trail. Both games are away. The final game of the season will be a HOME game at PVHS Thursday night, April 10th at 5:00 against Lake Brantley. Come support the undefeated JV lacrosse Sharks on Thursday!
