We have a few volunteer spots open at the front desk in the front office.  They are:

New Scholarship Opportunity Available for High School Seniors
The law firm of Ayo and Iken is offering two $1,000 scholarship for high school seniors. The deadline for scholarship submissions is May 1st--click on the following link for more information.

 
Relay for Life Fundraiser

Relay For Life of Ponte Vedra will host a fun, family-friendly fundraising event at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge in Jacksonville Beach on Friday, April 4, from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.  Featuring a delicious barbecue dinner provided by Woody's, bingo and live entertainment from local students.   The event will raise funds for the American Cancer Society in honor of Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS) faculty and staff members who are cancer survivors or currently battling cancer.

 

Festivities will also include a silent auction with a variety of great products and services donated by local companies. 

 

Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for students, and $10 for children and can be purchased by stopping by the PVHS front office, through any Relay for Life team captain, or by contacting Cheryl Freeman at pvrelayforlife@gmail.com.    Proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society on behalf of PVHS cancer survivors.

ASVAB Program
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP) will be administered at Ponte Vedra High on Wednesday, April 9 at 9:15. The ASVAB is a career exploration and planning program that consists of a Multiple Choice Aptitude Test, an Interest Inventory, and a Career Exploration Tool. The CEP takes approximately 3 hours and is for juniors and seniors only. For more information parents and students can visit www.asvabprogram.com. Interested students can sign up for this testing with Mrs. Nightingale in the guidance office. The deadline is March 31.

Scholarship Opportunity for Senior Blood Donors!

 The discount listed on your purple PTO discount card for Beaches Cleaners (now called ECO-Friendly Dry Cleaners)
has been changed to 10% off all dry cleaning effective March-October 2014.

 *** Our PINK OUT was a Huge Success! Through your very generous donations we were able to raise over $1,000 for "in the pink", a Jax Beach outreach program helping local women dealing with Breast Cancer.

 A special thank you to the "in the pink" founder Jeri Millard who was on hand to accept the donations raised.  A special thanks to Tyler Daniel, who honored late sister as he threw the first pitch to catcher, Trevor Hancock, who's grandmother was honored as a 25-year survivor and his aunt a 13-year survivor.  A special thanks to Miss PV Leila Sabet and Caleb Stanton who assisted with the Pink Rose Ceremony.  And, our Senior Diamond Girls Nysta Saayfan and Melanie Wolff who were our program announcers.

Boys' Lacrosse:
Varsity:  Legeza scores 8 goals as Sharks cruise to victory in their first district game against Bartram Trail
On Monday night the Sharks traveled to Bartram Trail for their first district game of the season. Senior Cody Legeza put on a scoring clinic, finding the back of the net eight times in the first half.  The Sharks entered halftime with a commanding 13-2 lead. For the Bears, Max Kuzma provided a scoring spark in the 2nd half with 4 goals, but it was not enough as the Sharks cruised to a 19-8 win. In addition to Legeza, 8 other Sharks contributed goals. Colin Peaks and Jake Anderson together turned away 7 shots. Ponte Vedra  improves  to 3- 1 and Bartram Trail is 4-2. The Sharks home game on Thursday was postponed due to weather.

Junior Varsity:
On Monday, March 3rd, the JV Boys Lacrosse team faced Bartram Trail, away from home, and returned with a 15-1 win against the Bears.  Leading scorer for the Sharks was Andrew O'Dare with a whopping 6 goals!  Other high scores came from Marshall Few (2 goals, 1 assist), Jack Woeste (1 goal, 2 assists), and Reid Smith (1 goal, 1 assist).  Completing the scoring with 1 goal each were Eric Erhard, Clay Welch, John Santillo, Quinn Larson, and Matt Keeler.  Landon Taucher also gave the Sharks an assist.  In face-offs, the Sharks came out on top in 17 out of 19 during the game.   

This week, on Monday, March 10th, the JV boys will cross the ditch to play against the Nease Panthers.  On Friday, March 14th, they tackle Orlando's Lake Highland Prep, at home, in a big game of the season.  Come out at 5:00 THIS FRIDAY and support the JV Boys Lacrosse team in a much anticipated match held on our home turf!  Go Sharks!

Under cold and cloudy skies, the Ponte Vedra Boys Tennis Team traveled to Gainesville and returned with a 5-2 victory, ending their two match losing streak. Gainesville's # 1 player, senior Peter Slaton, accounted for both of the Hurricanes' points.

The Flavor Run
PVHS community--Join us on April 5th at Nocatee Town Center in Ponte Vedra to either participate or volunteer in the Flavor Run, benefitting a local charity, THE HEAL FOUNDATION.

What is The Flavor Run?  So, first a little bit of background about The Flavor Run... it's a fun, family oriented 5k run (untimed) that engages all of your senses, most especially smell and taste! We have fruit flavored Flavor stations with fruit flavored celebration colored powder - blueberry, strawberry, watermelon, orange, banana and grape! We also offer an awesome post-run "Flavor Zone" that includes everything from fresh fruit, vendors, live entertainment, local charities and kid's activities.
