Reading Lab Volunteers Needed
Ponte Vedra High has a solution to help its students!  We have a reading lab that works one on one with a parent volunteer to help our students get organized, go over unknown words, help think test questions through and more.  These students need a little specialized attention in order to give them a wider skill set or confidence level and build a stronger foundation with reading skills. You can make a difference to one of them.  You don't have to know the topic or be a doctorate candidate, you just have to want to make the difference in someone's life - a difference that could change their life!  Please do!

Contact Yvonne Ratcliffe at [email protected].  Thank you!

All Call for Cafeteria Volunteers!
Our Food & Nutrition Services Manager, Susan Johnson, really needs some volunteers for serving lunch in the cafeteria. We have so many kids to serve in a very short time. It really makes everything so much more efficient with the help of the volunteers. Unfortunately the county cannot afford to give us any more hired hands. Even if your kids bring their lunch it is a really great way to
see the kids and be a HUGE help! The commitment is about 2 hours per shift.

We are looking for as many helpers as we can so that we can do a rotating schedule for Susan.

Times: Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start time to allow check in at the front office . Shift times are as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 11:30 - 1:45
Wednesday 11:15 - 1:15

The dress is casual. Closed toed shoes(tennis shoes) hair in a ponytail and wear a hat. Please let me know your availability so that we can continue to keep PVHS the best in all areas for our kids.

Please contact Suzanne Franco to get involved.

Open Letter to Students and Friends of Ponte Vedra High School from our girls Basketball Coach
Dear Ponte Vedra High School Students, Teachers, Friends and Fans,

Basketball season is just around the corner and the Ponte Vedra women's team is gearing up for a special 2013-14 campaign.  But we need your help.

Our players have been working hard all summer and this past fall to build a championship program.  We need your support when we play at home where we must protect OUR HOUSE.  The Shark Tank should, can, and will be a tough place for opponents to play.

We promise that we will play with physicality, intensity, and with speed every time we take the floor.  Our team's goal this year, which we will take a lot of pride in, is to compete for a District and Regional championship.  We want our opponents to leave The Shark Tank never wanting to come back because of our tough play and our fans.  You can help us create that atmosphere.  As we take our program to new heights, your presence and enthusiastic support can be our sixth man.

This is our third year as a coaching staff, and our returners are much improved, have expanded their games, and have been instrumental in instilling our program's values and permeating our culture.  We have increased our size and our depth, and our late season success from a year ago has given our team the confidence and edge we need to take significant steps forward this year.

We suit up ten times in the Shark Tank this year, beginning with our Nov. 12th home opener, when we host Creekside at 7:30 p.m.  We can guarantee that every time our team takes the floor, we will compete with pride for each other and for you!

The women's basketball team is on a journey to reach new heights, to become a championship program, and we need you to join us in this the journey.
Make the Shark Tank a place where teams fear playing all season long!

Cross Country:
Girls Cross Country Team is headed to States; Boys best season ever comes to an end!

It's been a a great season for the both Shark Cross Country teams this year and it got even better Saturday when for the first time in school history, the girls team qualified to run at the State Championship meet this coming weekend at FSU.

The team travelled to Lake City where they knew they needed to perform in a highly competitive  3A regional race.Head Coach Amy Schottel said the team had a chance to advance however the Lady Sharks were underdogs needing to outperform both Stanton and Leon High Schools, as both  schools were ranked higher than the Lady Sharks going into the race. Coach Schottel held a team meeting Friday evening to talk to her girls about digging deep within themselves and believing that they had what it took. She told them they had it within their grasp but it was all up to them.

Saturday morning after the last girl crossed the finish line, the team gathered quietly awaiting the final scores to be posted. It was already known that Seniors/Captains Bella Poole and Ashley Carpenter each qualified to advance as individuals after both girls had nothing short of stellar runs. Bella  ended up in 11th place followed by Ashley with 14th place, who passed 7 runners down the home stretch, both excellent runs earning the girls All Region honors, another first for PVXC.  The girls were hoping to advance as a team but had concerns about slower times on the rain soaked course. It turned out that other schools had the same concerns but after the final tally, Ponte Vedra came out ahead and did what they needed to do to grab a spot at the State Race! Both Bella and Ashley, along with teammates, sophomore Abby Reimer, senior/captain Casey Boland, junior Sarah Lindell  senior Courtney Henderson and junior Alexa Burch will be traveling to Tallahassee next week to run in  the biggest race of the their high school career next Saturday, along with team alternates, junior Grace Kellaher and freshman Madison Santore.

Best wishes to the Lady Shark next weekend!!

The best PV Boys Cross Country team season since the school opened came to an end at Regionals with the team falling short of advancing to States. Injuries to key runners and a tough field with 6 of the top 9 teams in the state in 3A Region 1 both contributed to the Sharks not advancing.  Senior/Captain Crisman Jones saved his best for last and had the finest run of his high school career in his final race placing 22nd  while also running for a PR in tough conditions. In any other region of the state Crisman would have qualified but the field was just too tough. Crisman was followed by senior Sharks Dustyn Johnson, JP Mauriello, Connor Schramm and Frank Blumenfeld, all running their last race for the Sharks. Freshman Perry Bechtle also ran for a PR turning in a strong race and sophomore Andrew Kessler rounded out the scoring for the Sharks.

Coach Kerry Mowlam was very complimentary of his team and especially proud of the legacy and standards his Senior laden team left to the younger Shark runners to emulate and build on in the years to come.

Golf:

Wednesday was a great day for Ponte Vedra Boys and Girls Golf.  Boys Golf clinched the 2A State Championship by 2 strokes with an overall team score of 601 for the two days.  Junior Taylor Funk led the charge shooting a 68 and 73 respectively for the two days and was the overall individual champion, finishing -3 under par.

Girls Golf finished tied for third in the state with Lake Highland Prep with a team score of 641 for the two days. The girls team turned in very solid performances and were led by Junior Nicolette Donovan who shot a 73 and 71 respectively and captured the indivual championship.  Nicolette was the only young lady in Class 2A to shoot par or better.
