Cross Country:The Sharks traveled to Middleburg Saturday for the Bronco Bob Invitational in their final tune-up in advance of next week's JV championship @ Bishop Kenny and a bye week for the Varsity before they participate in their State Championship series. A nice course and cool, sunny weather greeted your Sharks along with 27 other teams on a great morning for running after the heat and rain from weeks past. Hard work and cool temperatures resulted in a slew of season and personal bests times.
The Varsity boys started off the morning finishing 5th out of 24 teams in spite of injury's to some key runners. Senior Crisman Jones led the Sharks with a strong 8th place finish out of 195 runners. The team had a poor starting chute position and had to merge into a narrow path through trees that had Crisman and the other PV runners in approx. 100th place. The boys emerged and had a clear area to start passing and came out with some great performances. Coming in next for the Sharks were seniors Dustyn Johnston, nursing a hamstring injury in 19th followed by John Paul Mauriello and Connor Shramm in 33rd and 34th place. Junior Tyler Lowery, sophomore Andrew Kessler and freshman Perry Bechtle finished the scoring for the varsity.
The Varsity girls teams finished 4th out of 23 teams despite some key runners resting due to injuries. Leading the way out of 148 runners and taking 6th place and a medal was senior Bella Poole. Right behind was senior Ashley Carpenter in 9th also taking a metal and running for a personal record (PR). Sophomore Abby Reimer ran a strong race to finish in 21st, senior Courtney Henderson, junior Sara Lindell, freshman Madison Santore and Caroline Bing along with junior Grace Kellaher all had PR's or season best times in an excellent team performance. Both Caroline and Grace had their first Varsity appearance and showed their hard work during the season has paid off!
The Shark JV boy's team welcomed some runners back and finished 5th out of 18 teams. Senior Evan Weiner led the Sharks with a 9th place performance followed by junior Johnathon Fennell in 23rd, sophomores Mahi Sankar in 26th with a PR and Palmer Mowlam in 30th were next for the Sharks. Back from injuries or with breakout races, freshman Mark Davey, Greg Kearney and Ryan Quintal all had strong races with PR's. Juniors Nathan Worrell, Kevin Kellaher, Dylan O'Shea and senior Carson Foster, sophomores Cameron Rumsey and Brandon Blackwelder also had strong performances for the Sharks, as did freshman Davis Massey, Sean Minchin, Harrison Crowley, Alex Lazzara, Mathew Crawford and Marshall Frye most of which who had PR's or season best performances.
