Cross Country: This weekend the XC teams turned in some great performances in spite of a series of tough workouts and runners missing due to being injured. Out of the 44 runners who competed in the two meets this weekend, 35 turned in season best or personal record time proving they are on the right track to be ready for the important end of season meets.
Our Varsity teams traveled to Gainesville to compete with over 65 teams in the UF Mtn. Dew Invitational at the Gators Home Course, the Mark Bostic Golf Course. As the sun came out it was a hot and humid morning but on the Guys side, Dustyn Johnson, Crisman Jones, JP Mauriello, Andrew Kessler and Connor Schramm all scored for the team to take 24th place. Dustyn, Crisman, JP, Andrew and Frank Blumenfeld all posted season best times for the Varsity Squad.
The Lady Sharks were equally as impressive finishing 19th. Again this week, Bella Poole, Ashley Carpenter, Abby Reimer, Courtney Henderson and Casey Boland scored the team points while Bella, Ashley and Abby turned in a season best time. Juniors Alexa Burch and Sara Lindell also turned a season best time on a course that has a reputation for being difficult with it's rolling hills and soft grass.
On the JV side, our squads traveled to the North Campus of Florida State College to compete against 27 other teams in the Mandarin Invitational. Our JV boys team turned in another fine performance with a 6 th place team finish with all but 4 of our 22 runners turning in season or career best performances. The boys were led by junior Johnathon Fennell, freshman Perry Bechtle, juniors Tyler Lowery and Brett Greene, sophomores Palmer Mowlam and Mahi Sankar, senior Chris Page and junior Dylan O'Shea. In addition, all of our remaining freshman runners had season best performances. Our JV Lady Sharks finished 4th in the team competition and were led by junior Kerri Wonsock's 5th place overall finish. She was followed by freshman Madison Santore, juniors Kim Halbert, Stephanie Stroupe, freshman Caroline Bing, junior Grace Kelleher and freshman Madison Cooper. Once again, season best times were the norm for our JV runners as they continue to improve. Next week all our runners will travel to the Lake City Alligator Lake Invitational which is the host of this years 3A Region 1 meet. With continued hard work and strong efforts, it is our plan to return for this meet in November with both our teams for the first time.
