Good Golly Miss Molly!

Last month we journeyed north to visit Molly Yeh, a Minnesota-based food blogger and local-food lover. Molly recently moved from Brooklyn to a farm in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, where her fiancé is a fifth-generation farmer. Molly has been blogging since 2009, and her posts include recipes inspired by her heritage, bits and pieces about life on the farm, or stories from her travels nearby and around the world.
Molly developed a recipe for us using Minnesota Grown ingredients and created a blog post about the early happenings of a Minnesota fall and the harvest season. Her apple & honey muffins are perfect in the tractor cab or at the kitchen table, and are quick and simple to make!

As we made our way toward Molly's home in northern Minnesota, we also made sure to visit an apple orchard! Fairhaven Farm, in Fairhaven, Minnesota, welcomed us for a tour of their orchard and shared with us the history of their unique operation. Here, co-owner David Macgregor has been developing new apple varieties for years, and the results are delicious! Keep in mind Intensity and Kindercrisp when you are picking up your apples from Fairhaven Farm!

On the Wine Trail
The Minnesota Grown Directory boasts 36 farm-wineries located throughout the state! These can be the perfect destinations for day trips or weekend getaways. When visiting one winery just isn't enough, it's time to consider a wine trail! Wine trails are groups of wineries located within close proximity to each other. Because Minnesota's growing conditions and landscapes vary throughout the state, wine trails often have their own distinct identity when it comes to the wines they produce and experiences they offer. Discover Minnesota wines this fall by planning a day or weekend visiting a wine trail. This is the perfect time to enjoy fall weather and colors throughout the state. The Minnesota Grape Growers Association now lists six wine trails that feature Minnesota Grown members!

Apple Update
Minnesota apple season is well underway and orchards are bursting with tasty varieties! Later season varieties including Honeycrisp, Cortland, Haralson, Honeygold, Fireside, Regent, and Keepsake are starting to appear.
As winter draws near, fresh produce will be harder to come by in Minnesota. Make your trips to the apple orchard count this season by storing your apples in a cool, dark place with high humidity, away from other fruits. Placing them gently in a cardboard box and closing the top will help to reduce airflow (it does not need to be airtight!). Remember not to store apples with bruising or bad spots. This may cause other apples to go bad!

Last month, we took a trip north to visit Molly Yeh, a Minnesota-based food blogger and local food lover. She created this recipe with Minnesota Grown apples and honey, and a locally distilled whiskey!
If these taste anything like her challah, then they should be on
top of your "must try" list!
