BEST OF THE BEST
Looking back on 2012, what was successful?
Perhaps it was a terrific community service project, maybe it was an incredible display. Did you do something that brought teens to the library for Summer Reading? Did you make a change in shelving ? What really worked for you?
Share your best idea on Facebook and you could win a Red Mango gift card. Your post can help others plan successful services for teens in 2013.
Thanks for sharing.

Something Different | Teen author/editor Tavi Gevinson's collection of articles, interviews, photo editorials, and illustrations from online magazine Rookie looks and feels like a scrapbook. In addition to interviews with the likes of JossWheaton there are such items as original stickers, a paper crown, some quirky fashion tips, a flexidisc with songs by Supercute! and Dum Dum Girls. It's unique and fills a a niche for older teenswho prefer eclectic thoughtful "short bites". Check on the Tumblr fan base.
A few years ago I became intrigued with the manga series Metro Survive and have finally found a novel that matches the themes and intensity of that series. In Emmy Laybourne's action-packed novel, Monument 14, a group of high school kids and some young children are trapped together in a chain superstore -think Super Walmart. They must create a community and refuge from the outside world. A fascinating story of survival and group dynamics. Gripping!

Public Library and High School Collaboration |
Linda schedules classes for sessions in the school library, where the two demonstrate ePrep and Brainfuse products, particularly the Writing Lab for college-bound teens.
Students are able to create a login while using the high school computers and can access these powerful tools for academic success.
Kudos Margie and Linda!

Lucille Bear and Bad Kitty on the Road
|
Through a series of very fortunate events, Bad Kitty and Lucille Bear made it to the grand opening of the South Huntington Teen Area. And "grand" is an appropriate description.
After a welcome by the library director and Board of Trustees, the teens took to the stage (yes, they have a STAGE), presenting a moving "I Have a Dream" sequence from the Teen Advisory Board, some delightful fairy tale recreations dramatized by teens, and concluding with a number from teen band, Road House.
Congratulations to South Huntington's Board of Trustees, Director, Teen Advisory Board and their advisor Jen Griffing
