ROR Staff Named to Top 40 Under 40 List

Restore or Retreat Executive Director Simone Maloz and Outreach Coordinator John Lombardo were honored by the Thibodaux Chamber, Lafourche Chamber, and Leadership Lafourche organizations as a

"Best of Lafourche: 40 Under 40."

The first Best of Lafourche: 40 Under 40 awards program is a way to identify and acknowledge young leaders in the community, organizers said.

"The list is basically the movers and shakers of the parish. It's people to look for, watch out for," said Lin Kiger, CEO/President of the Lafourche Chamber.

Each person was nominated by his or her peers before being further evaluated by a panel of judges made up of industry officials in the bayou region. Judges dished out points based on their reason for nomination, career achievements, community involvement and vision for the future of Lafourche.

Second Call for 2017 Master Plan Projects
Due to a high level of interest and the large volume of project proposals received to date, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) has issued a second request for proposals for new projects to be considered for inclusion in the 2017 Coastal Master Plan.

The deadline to submit project proposals is October 31, 2014.

New projects can be proposed:

  • that build and/or sustain land;
  • provide significant flood risk reduction;
  • address radical shifts in the coastal landscape;
  • confront future uncertainty challenges.

New projects can be proposed by any external source, including academia, parishes, elected officials, agencies, NGO's, landowners, business/industry, and the general public.

All proposals must be delivered electronically (in PDF format) to [email protected].

Proposals should be no more than 7 pages (1-2 pages for the cover sheet and contact information, 2 pages for project description, 1 page for a map of project location, and 1-2 pages for project attributes).

Like the 2012 Coastal Master Plan, a screening process will be used to determine whether a project has the potential to be included in the 2017 analysis.

All questions can be sent to [email protected]. CPRA staff will be available to help develop and refine project attributes.

For more information, including complete details on the types of projects that can be proposed, screening guidelines, and submittal details,  click here to download a PDF.

Please note that projects proposed in advance of the August 21 deadline are currently under review. Upon completing review of any additional submissions received by the October 31 deadline, CPRA representatives will provide a response to each proposer. We anticipate these notifications being completed by the end of 2014.

CPRA Partnership RFP Announced

This year the Conservation and Restoration Partnership Fund has dedicated $1 million to provide matching funds for projects aimed at coastal conservation and restoration. The State will use this
funding to take advantage of grants, donations, and other private/public partnership opportunities to support the implementation of high priority coastal restoration projects. This will allow the State to
further leverage its funds to achieve its coastal restoration goals.
Proposals for coastal conservation and restoration projects that would benefit from additional funding are requested.

Proposals should include a brief description of the project purpose, features, conceptual design, project area map and description of how it contributes to the criteria listed below. Proposals should be no more than two pages in length (i.e., one page description and one page map).

Project Selection Criteria
Projects will be evaluated and prioritized based on the following criteria:
1. Acreage conserved/restored
2. Synergism with other conservation/restoration efforts
3. Project constructability
4. Matching funds
5. Consistency with the objectives of the 2012 State Master Plan

General Information
Proposals will be accepted for 30 days following the September 17, 2014 Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) meeting. A selection committee made up of CPRA scientists and engineers
will review and evaluate each proposed project based on the criteria listed above. Projects selected for funding will be notified by November 30.

Any questions can be directed to:
Stuart Brown, 225-342-4736
or
Logan Boudreaux, 225-342-2639

Please submit proposals and/or direct questions about the program or project proposals by Friday October 17, 2014 via mail, email, or fax to:
