2012 Master Plan Public Meetings Come to Bayou Region This Week

The CPRA began hosting public meetings in July, which will last until September, to get feedback from the public to help them craft the five year update to the State's Master Plan for restoration and protection.

After the devastating hurricanes of 2005, the Louisiana Legislature passed Act 8 to combine hurricane protection and restoration efforts within the State, and asked that the first-ever Master Plan for coastal Louisiana be crafted.  The 2007 Master Plan established planning objectives for implementing coastal protection and restoration projects, and identified large-scale measures needed to achieve a sustainable coast.  This groundbreaking document was a conceptual document and was not intended to address all the numerous complex issues that coastal Louisiana faces.  To accommodate the dynamic nature of coastal processes, an update of the plan is required every five years that must be submitted to the Louisiana Legislature for approval.

With the 2012 update deadline drawing near, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) has announced a series of regional community meetings to share information about Louisiana's updated 2012 Coastal Master Plan. Over the next few months, the State will be developing the draft plan, so now is the time to come offer your ideas and learn about the state's work.   Please "Support the Solution" and be part of the process because hard choices will have to be made to secure the future of Louisiana's coast, which affects us all.
