GLPC Logo
The Greater Lafourche Port Commission facilitates the economic growth of the communities in which it operates by maximizing the flow of trade and commerce.  They do this to grow our economy and preserve our environment and heritage.  The Port exercises jurisdiction over the Tenth Ward of Lafourche Parish, south of the Intracoastal Waterway, including Port Fourchon and the South Lafourche Leonard Miller, Jr., Airport.  The GLPC has been a consistent supporter of Restore or Retreat since our inception in 2000, contributing many resources to our organization and to the environmental community, for which we are grateful.

Falgout Wins LWF Governor's Award

The annual award is given to the person or organization deemed to have made the most outstanding contribution toward the protection and wise use of the state's natural resources from among nominees submitted by the public.

Ted at West Guide Levee
LWF Governor's Award Winner Ted Falgout inspects the West Guide Levee of the Davis Pond Freshwater Diversion, a project he has championed for for years.

Ted Falgout, retired Executive Director of Port Fourchon and Restore or Retreat Vice President, has been chosen to receive the Louisiana Wildlife Federation's Governor's Award for Conservationist of the Year for 2010.  The award will be presented at the organization's annual convention and banquet in Alexandria, La, on March 19.

Falgout was the executive director of Port Fourchon for 31 years until retiring from the position in late 2009.  Through his three decade career as the port director, he served on numerous state and local commissions and has been a vocal and prominent advocate for coastal restoration at the state and national level.  While managing the growth of the port, he consistently encouraged conservation efforts and supported restoration projects in southeast Louisiana.  in 2010, he was appointed to the newly created Louisiana Oyster Advisory Commission, continued working with the America's Wetland campaign, served as Vice President of Restore or Retreat, served on project evaluation teams for coastal restoration projects, lent his knowledge and expertise to guide tours for leaders who can influence coastal issues, and worked with the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office to support the response to the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Restore or Retreat Presents to the CPRA

Restore or Retreat Executive Director Simone Maloz presented "Regional Restoration Initiatives" alongside Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes during the March 16 Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority meeting held in Houma.

Together with several stakeholders including members of coastal zone management, levee districts, and landowners, helped to compile a suite of projects at different stages of development, using different techniques, and at various cost levels, all of which could be applied to any future funding scenario, including, but not limited to oil spill impacts, surplus, CIA, and GOMES funds.

The presentation was well received by the CPRA members, and ROR, Terrebonne Parish, and Lafourche Parish look forward to working together and with others in the future on implementation.
