CDBF 2013
NEWS FROM THE COLORADO DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL
March, 2013
Welcome!
Dear CDBF Community,
We've survived another winter, and hopefully will start to see a beautiful Colorado spring. We're very excited for warmer weather, because we just purchased six used dragon boats for use in our expanded races for this summer!

We've also started the Mile-Hi Dragonboat Racing Club as a separate organization to form race teams and help grow the popularity of the sport in the area.

We're still accepting applications for our five performing arts stages and our Marketplace and Taste of Asia food courts, and we're also still accepting entries for our Image Contest (how cool would it be to see your design on our poster?) and nominations for the 2013 Honorary Chair.

We also want to note the tragedy of the Burmese family struck by a hit-and-run-driver and urge you to support the mother, who survived, and say goodbye to Leo Goto, a longtime community leader and CDBF Honorary Patron in 2008.

And as usual, we have the most complete Asian Community Events listings here and on our website.

Thanks for your support for CDBF,
Erin Yoshimura
Executive Director

Six in the City: More boats for 2013 races!
Expanded fleet will bring added excitement

CDBF new boats 2013This year's Dragon Boat races are sure to be even more exciting than ever: We've invested in a fleet of six used Hong Kong-style boats and shipped them from Vancouver to Denver to help us expand our races, so we can have more teams facing off against each other in each heat.

We also still have our two Taiwan-style flag boats for the popular Flag Catcher division races. So we're set for a great, improved weekend of racing at the 13th annual Colorado Dragon Boat Festival!

The Flag Catcher division is now full but you can still sign up here for the Hong Kong style division and race in our fresh fleet!

"Floating Weeds, drifting down the leisurely river of our lives," has long been a favored metaphor in Japanese prose and poetry and, in this 1934 film, it refers to a group of traveling actors who seem to be drifting aimlessly, carried by currents beyond their control. The film comes to life with Alex de Grassi's original acoustic guitar score based on a pentatonic blues motif that also suggests the sound of the koto, a Japanese harp-like instrument.
