CDBF 2013

News from the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival

October 23, 2012

Welcome!
Erin Yoshimura, CDBF Executive Director

Dear CDBF Community-

This is my favorite time of the year! The leaves are beautiful, there's a briskness in the air and sweet persimmons will be rolling into grocery stores soon. Believe it or not, we're busy planning the 13th Annual Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, and we'll work hard to make sure it's our lucky 13th!

Instead of having an annual fundraising event this year, we're hosting an amazing raffle with a world-class prize. Thanks to our friends at United Airlines, you have a chance to win two (2) tickets to anywhere in the world that United flies!

That means if you want to visit Japan you can fly on the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet that will start its maiden direct flight been Denver International Airport and Tokyo's Narita Airport next year. Read more about our raffle below, but hurry and purchase your tickets -- the deadline is noon October 30!

This time of year is also when many nonprofits receive their Scientific & Cultural Facilities District grant awards. We're fortunate to receive grants from Arapahoe, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties. We will also receive funding this year from Colorado Creative Industries. We appreciate the massive amount of time that each council spends reading hundreds and hundreds of grant applications each year! And, we thank you, Coloradans, for shopping locally!

Below, we bid farewell to a longtime volunteer and CDBF Board Member (and past Chair of the Board), Kit Williams. Many thanks, Kit, for your dedication, perseverance and leadership.

And as always, we finish the newsletter with the most comprehensive Asian Community Events Calendar in the Denver area. If you have anything going on in your community, let us knpw at calendar@cdbf.org, and we'll be happy to add your event!

Until next time,

Erin Yoshimura

Executive Director

You could win flights to anywhere United flies!
United Airlines Boeing 787 DreamlinerThanks to our friends at United Airlines, we're offering you a chance to win two (2) flights to anywhere in the world that United flies.

That includes the new direct flight from Denver to Tokyo that begins next year on the spectacular, state-of-the-industry Boeing 787 Dreamliner (shown here) jet!

But hurry -- there's only ONE WEEK left for you to purchase the CDBF Raffle tickets for your chance for these United flight vouchers.

A big "Thank You" for our SCFD support!
Arapahoe County SCFDWe're sure you've noticed for many years that the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District
(SCFD) is CDBF's Community Partner.

The seven separate county organizations that give grants under the SCFD umbrella, along with Colorado Creative Industries, the office that combines the Colorado Council on the Arts, the Office of Film, Television and Media, and Art in Public Places, are generous supporters of cultural organizations and events throughout the region.

The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival was at Arapahoe County, shown here, for a recent meeting where grants were announced and CDBF was a recipient. We'd like to thank Arapahoe, Broomfield, Douglas, Denver and Jefferson counties' SCFD Councils for their support of the 13th Annual festival!

Many thanks to Kit Williams
Kit WilliamsKit Williams stepped off the CDBF Board of Directors after having served for four years, two as Chair of the Board. She was surprised with a dragon-shaped arrangement of cupcakes (shown here) at her final board meeting.

Her association with the festival goes back years before she joined the Board. Kit began volunteering as a festival photographer in 2005, and since then has led a team of photograhers every year who chronicle every aspect of the event. She's also retiring from her role as photography manager, and we'll miss her there too!

Not surprisingly, Kit is a professional photographer (and business consultant) when she's not involved with CDBF or her many other civic and community organizations, The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival has been very lucky to have Kit helping to guide the festival into its second decade! We'll miss her energy and wisdom, and her appreciation and deep uinderstanding of CDBF's mission.
