Dear Colleagues in Ministry -

"I thank God through Jesus for every one of you. That's first." (Rom. 1:8 MSG) Your answer to the call of God is a precious gift to those you serve and to the work of building God's reign of wholeness.

At the same time, I am aware that changing times are impacting you directly. Christianity is not the dominant cultural force in the U.S. and Canada that it may have been a few decades ago. Layered on top of that are the challenges of labels and issues that divide, learning new skills, the pull of your family, your own need for renewal.

You are in my personal prayers. The stark divisions of society at large are seeping into our communities. The harsh words of different perspectives echo everywhere from your board meetings to the comments on your Facebook page. The Pension Fund's theme this year of #ModernMinistry acknowledges the reality that we live in a different milieu than those who have gone before.

Thank you for finding new ways to keep on with your call. During this Month of Ministry, I write on behalf of a grateful Church to thank you for continuing to make a difference in your context, whether you are caring for 10 or 1,000. Thank you for the encouragement you provide to others in following their own call to show God's love to the world. Thank you for finding your unique path and bringing wholeness to this fragmented world.
