Like fingerprints, no two ministries will ever look alike. Today's ministries are reaching out to others in unprecedented ways.
#ModernMinistry is ...
- a black female preacher serving a predominantly white congregation (despite racial tension escalating elsewhere). - Virzola Law
- going from a jail cell to serving a standing-room-only church.-Bill Hemm
- following the deepest sense of call and finding some unexpected - and joyous - turns.- José Morales
- from the bar to the barre.- Erin Wathen
This year, we hope you'll join the Pension Fund in celebrating all the things that make your ministry unique during Week of the Ministry. October 9-16, honor the call by showing off your hard work - whatever that looks like for you.
And while you're at it - We encourage you to take a photo of your #ModernMinistry Oct. 9-16 and share!

Celebrating the saints
by Jim Cullumber, Christian Church Foundation
All Saints Sunday, the first Sunday in November, isn't typically one of the high and holy days in most congregations. But for a Church that celebrates remembering at the communion table each week, All Saints Sunday (Nov. 6) provides a wonderful opportunity to remember those who have played important roles in our faith journeys.
"For me, the reason we remember is so we do not forget," says the Rev. Mike Hunter, senior minister. "We remember the gift of their lives that made impact on ours and continue to impact our future. We remember their spirit, their example, and their tangible gifts to the church with the realization that those steps must now be filled with our footprints."
Before All Saints Sunday, Hunter personally writes to the families of all persons who have died in the past calendar year. He invites them to worship, where he reads each departed name in prayer. The church also offers an "In Memorial" slide presentation. A brunch precedes the worship services, providing a chance to honor all the living saints.
The Christian Church Foundation has a resource for pastors looking for ideas to celebrate All Saints Sunday. Developed by retired pastor Rev. Rick Hull, the free resource provides sermon ideas, scripture possibilities, suggested songs and even children's messages.

Ministry planning service helps rediscover purpose
FOR A LIMITED TIME, Hope Partnership is offering its revamped Mission Pathways ministry planning service to congregations at a reduced price.
Designed by Hope Partnership's Rick Morse and the Montana region's Ruth Fletcher, Mission Pathways is primarily for stable churches with engaged and capable lay and clergy leaders. It helps those leaders focus on why their church exists instead of the more typical questions around money and attracting members. A self-led intentional planning process, Mission Pathways guides congregational leaders through assessment of current conditions and context, community interviewing, a retreat experience during which they create a future story that captures the congregation's dream for its future, and the process of capacity-building designed to provide a clear action plan, followed by coaching.
Mission Pathways takes about six months to complete. Limited-time reduced fee of $2,500, plus travel expenses. Contact Rick at rmorse@hopepmt.org
