St. Louis-area Disciples partner on documentary film
Following the fatal shooting of young adult Michael Brown on Aug. 9, 2014, by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, several Disciples clergy and laypersons joined many others in community responses for justice in Ferguson and beyond.
A documentary film, Injustice Anywhere, arose in the midst of collective conversations and work of several expressions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), including key activist clergy and laypersons in the St. Louis area; the Christian Church of Mid-America; the Office of the General Minister and President; Reconciliation Ministry; Week of Compassion; Higher Education and Leadership Ministries; National Convocation; and the National Benevolent Association, as well as Metropolitan Congregations United.
Filmmaker Aziza Binti describes the documentary as such: "This film seeks to provide solutions, ideas, and compassion for Disciples to see just how valuable their efforts can be, even on a small scale. Social justice is not just 'their' problem; it's everyone's concern. We reference the quote from the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.-'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere'-to open the film and begin speaking with members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) about their understanding that this is indeed everyone's issue-especially those who are truly Disciples of Christ."

HELM announces relocation to Indianapolis
Move allows for increased collaboration and greater financial equilibrium
Higher Education & Leadership Ministries (HELM), St. Louis, a General Ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), has announced its plans to relocate to Indianapolis. HELM's new office will be in the Disciples Center, home to the denomination's Office of the General Minister & President, multiple General Ministries, and other denominational offices.
HELM focuses on developing and nurturing Christian leaders who are transforming church, society and world.
"This was not an easy decision for the board to make, given our connections to St. Louis, " said Board President Tom Wood, "but from both a stewardship and mission standpoint, the board believes it is the right direction for our ministry." HELM has been located in St. Louis since 1972. Prior to that HELM, as the Board of Education, was based in Indianapolis. Read more
