Chalice Press publisher interviewed by Publishers Weekly
Publishing houses are changing the way they select books

Chalice Press, an imprint of the Christian Board of Publication (CBP), is among a handful of Christian publishers that met with the religion and spirituality writers from Publishers Weekly, among the most influential publications in the literary industry.

A follow-up article by Publishers Weekly noted Chalice Press "has turned toward issues-oriented books-on topics such as racism and income inequality-by 'prophets of the 21st century'."

CBP/Chalice President Brad Lyons and Marketing Director Steve Knight met March 15 in New York City with the magazine's publisher and editorial staff - a rare opportunity in the Christian publishing market that is inundated with denominational, independent, commercial, and non-profit publishers of all sizes and theological slants.

"Being invited to represent the Christian publishing industry is quite an honor, and an important milestone," Lyons says. "It shows we're making a difference, and people are noticing.

"We serve Disciples every day, but we see our work as bringing the Disciples values of equality and inclusiveness into an industry that too often espouses shallow theology or social-morality agendas."

For more than a century, CBP has been the publishing house of the Stone-Campbell Movement that has evolved into the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

New church movement experiencing a Second Wind
Pentecost Offering May 15 and May 22
By Hope Partnership staff
The Disciples new church movement is experiencing a Second Wind. With courageous leaders at the helm and the wind of the Holy Spirit breathing vitality into the movement, Disciples are on course to starting 1,000 new churches by 2020.

Hope Partnership for Missional Transformation invites you to join the new church fleet by supporting the 2016 Pentecost Offering, which will be received in Disciples of Christ churches May 15 and May 22.

Since the creation of the 2020 Vision, Disciples have planted 934 churches in the United States and Canada, sharing the gospel with more than 61,000 individuals who may not have had a relationship with Christ. According to Gilberto Collazo, president of Hope Partnership, "A Second Wind," which is the theme for this year's Pentecost Offering, is energizing the new church movement, making it a vital force for sharing God's Word. "The new church movement is very much on course and gaining momentum," he says. "Our new church planters are more determined than ever to share the gospel and transform lives and communities for Christ."

Each year one half of the Pentecost Offering is designated to the Region or Area in which the offering is taken, while the other half is used by Hope Partnership to support the recruitment, assessment, training and coaching of new church leaders.
