Neighborhood enjoys winter slot car races at Hawk Point Community Church in rural Missouri. The congregation recognized the lack of recreation in the area in winter and decided to reach out.
Simple slot car fun offers sense of community
by Pastor Joel Aurand

Hawk Point Community Church is located in the small, rural community of Hawk Point, MO, northwest of St. Louis. (The 2010 census counted just 669 residents.) There is little to do in town on winter weekends, so we decided to provide a fun, challenging, and community-building activity for the community for both youth and adults. The racing is challenging and the track layout changes with each racing series.

Our goal was to get to know people who might not otherwise attend a church and develop relationships with them. Nearly half of those who participated in our most recent six-week series have no church home. So far, we feel, this outreach has been a success and plan on taking the slot cars to our Community Heritage Day in early September, with the goal of promoting our fall 2016 and winter 2017 series.

Host a Disciples Peace Fellowship Peace Intern
by Phoebe Spier
Those of us, who as youth, experienced the life-changing influence of a DPF Peace Intern, or those who have witnessed their amazing affect on one or more youth whom we love, know that Peace Interns are an invaluable resource for camps, conferences and others ministering to young people.Unfortunately, not every regional leader and camp director has witnessed this amazing program in action and we need your help:

Please spread the word! Tell your regional ministers, camp directors and other leaders about the Disciples Peace Fellowship Peace Internship, and encourage them to apply to host an intern this summer!
