Week of Compassion offering Feb. 21 & 28
by Caroline Hamilton-Arnold, associate director
In a world where communities are being displaced by the catastrophes of war, famine and natural disasters, the Church is called to reclaim the spiritual discipline of solidarity. The 2016 Week of Compassion Special Offering focuses on how we walk alongside refugees, inspired by the story of Ruth, who promised Naomi "where you go, I will go; where you stay, I will stay."
For a deeper theological reflection on the theme, see the Congregational Letter and the Sermon Starter found in the 2015 Leader's Guide. The guide also has a full order of worship, activities for children and youth, dramatic interpretations of the theme and scripture, as well as quotes and statistics to help you engage the issue of global displacement. Three short videos are available for congregational use during worship, for discussion groups, on social media, or in other creative ways. All materials are available on the Week of Compassion website under "Resources".
Starting Feb. 15, you can show your support for refugees and the work of Week of Compassion by adding a simplified version of our logo as an overlay to your Facebook profile picture.Just click on the link on the Week of Compassion page. Then post a status sharing how you turn your compassion into action and encouraging others to do the same!
