Need HOPE to LEAD?
by Katie Marlowe, Hope Partnership

Does this sound familiar? "God, I know that I'm supposed to lead! But how?! Where?!" For years, Hope Partnership for Missional Transformation has worked with hundreds of leaders, both lay and clergy, who have a passion for their ministry, but just need a little more guidance on how to make it all come together.

Hope Partnership will host another session of the Leadership Academy Sept. 21-25, 2015, in Indianapolis to help equip and support lay and clergy leaders as they prepare to guide their new or transforming congregation in this era of God's mission. Leadership Academy is packed with exciting sessions and workshops about empowered leadership, social media, multi-culturalism, missional development and more. Speakers are experts in their field and offer invaluable information to those seeking to broaden the horizons of their ministry.

This fall's academy includes six tracks:
  1. New Church 1.0 for new planters;
  2. New Church 2.0 for planters who have already participated in planter training, but who would like to dive deeper into the training experience;
  3. Disciples Interim Ministers track for leaders who seek to lead congregations in transition;
  4. Transformation 1.0 for leaders preparing to lead their congregations through transformation;
  5. Transformation 2.0 for leaders who are prepared for the next level of training in transformational leadership; and
  6. Social Entrepreneur track, coordinated by the National Benevolent Association, for leaders seeking to develop entrepreneurial skills essential to leadership of social service ministries. Learn more about the Social Entrepreneur track here.
The registration deadline is Aug. 23. Visit www.hopepmt.org/la or call 800.274.1883 to register and for more information.

Refugee help needed

refugee kids

Disciples of Christ have, for many years, been asked to resettle 8 per cent of all refugees that enter through the 34 national affiliate offices of our Church World Service partners. In recent months, Disciples have resettled refugees from Iraq, Burma, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bhutan, and elsewhere.  Refugee & Immigration Ministries has received an emergency request from CWS refugee headquarters; for more than 20,000 approved for FY 2015 are set to arrive between now and the end of September.  Churches in Virginia, California, Texas, Indiana, Nebraska, Oregon, Minnesota and Pennsylvania are critically needed but all churches around the country are urged to help. Greater Kansas City region calls minister
The Regional Board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Greater Kansas City is pleased to introduce our next regional minister, the Rev. William Rose-Heim. He has served in regional ministry for the last 15 years, as Northwest Area Minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mid America, and most recently as part of the Regional Ministry Team for Mid America. He also has experience as a theology teacher, mental health therapist, fire fighter, and in his own business.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology/theology from Rockhurst University, Kansas City, MO and his master of divinity degree from St. Paul Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, MO. Rev. Rose-Heim has also done extensive training in congregational transformation, coaching, and pro-reconciliation/anti-racism.

He is married to the Rev. Donna Rose-Heim.

It's a go!
A new printing of Chalice Hymnal will proceed in September as preorders have reached goal to make the printing feasible.

Now the Christian Board of Publication (CBP) is urging congregations to get on the bandwagon and push the total order above 1,000 new hymnals.

"We know many congregations have been waiting to place an order, waiting to see if the printing would take place. Now we can say with certainty: Yes, it's going to happen," CBP President Brad Lyons said. "Place your order before Labor Day - September 7 - and you'll have your copies by Advent."

Because this is a limited print run, CBP cannot guarantee that orders placed after Labor Day (September 7) can be filled, so congregations are strongly encouraged to place their order this summer. Read full release
