Typhoon relief still needed

Week of Compassion is ready, willing and able to get your church's donations for the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines straight to our trusted partners already on the ground in the area. Your congregation might consider a special offering during your Thanksgiving gatherings Nov. 27-29 or if you'd like to put a donation link on your website or in your bulletin, send folks to www.weekofcompassion.org

Disciples Church Extension Fund offering free assessment tool

The Quick Building Inquiry Tool (QBIT) is a new no-cost online tool, created by Disciples Church Extension Fund, to help you start evaluating those church building challenges that may be jeopardizing the future of your congregation's ministry. By completing the inquiry in 10 minutes or less, you will receive a baseline evaluation of your facilities that will help you develop a building plan that makes sense for your congregation.

Advent videos in production

As you plan your worship experiences for Advent, you might be interested in knowing a couple of video resources are in production and should be ready the last week of November.

One will be a video from General Minister and President Sharon Watkins and the new team of moderators - Revs. Glen Miles and Joan Bell-Haynes and Tony Rodriguez - .that will reflect briefly on movement, welcome, table and wholeness in connection with the Advent season. A notice and link will be put out in Disciples News Service weekly e-letter and on the CC DOC Facebook page when it is available.

A second video - Magnificat - is a provocative new worship short by the fine folks over at SALT Project.  Based on the song that Mary sings after she greets Elizabeth in the first chapter of Luke's gospel, this short film explores what it looks like when God lifts up the lowly and fills the hungry with good things.  Intended to be used in multi-media worship settings for prayer, reflection, or meditation, this short film promises to evoke the power and promise of Advent: God is with us! Hope Partnership for Missional Transformation is sharing some of the production costs with SALT so it can be offered to Disciples churches free of charge.

The video will also be available for sale on the SALT website. A notice and link will be put out in Disciples News Service and on the CC DOC Facebook page when Magnificat is available.

Not too early to start thinking "report"

Year Book reports for local congregations will be mailed from regional offices in late December or early January. Included with the report form the congregation will be:

  • instructions on how to fill out the form;
  • electronic instructions on how to file the Year Book report online;
  • an order form to preorder a copy of the 2014 Year Book to be published in mid-July.

The reports will be mailed to the mailing address that is currently on file for the congregation. In order for your congregational information to be included in the 2014 Year Book, the report must be returned to your regional office before March 14, 2014

Year Book reports can also be filled out on line, but to do so you must have the PIN and current serial number for the congregation. Those numbers will be found on the top left of the Year Book report form. The PIN never changes, but the serial number changes annually as a security feature.  You will be able to reach the Year Book online reporting system at www.disciples.org/yearbook after January 6, 2014.
