NEW ACQUISITION
A Look at a Decade
Everyone knows Robert Indiana's famous LOVE design which put him in the public eye as an artist when it was used on a postage stamp in 1973. Recently, the Currier acquired Decade Autoportrait 1963, one of ten paintings that Indiana created in 1971 that reflect on his life in New York City in the 1960s. The painting is composed of bold, graphic images using words, numbers and the names of people and places that held special meaning for him during his years living in lower Manhattan. Check it out in the Contemporary Gallery, along with other new acquisitions by Frank Stella and Sam Gilliam.
