Rose Welch Says Thank You and Good-Bye September 30, 2014
Many of you know Rose Welch, who worked with community groups for many of her 25 years at IONS. She recently retired, and I wanted to share some of her reflections with you.
She wrote, "It has been my privilege and honor to serve the Institute of Notice Sciences...and be part of its evolution from a tiny group of visionaries in a small Sausalito office to an established center recognized throughout the world for advancing the study of human consciousness.
As I reflect and review my years at IONS in a spirit of closure, I feel blessed to have worked with many great leaders who are no longer with us: These include Willis Harman, IONS' long-time President who was truly a Prince and a man of tremendous vision; Wink Franklin, IONS' first Vice-President and then President after Willis passed, who developed the Wisdom Society and was responsible for purchasing the beautiful 194 acres that is now home to EarthRise; Brendan O'Regan, Director of Research, a brilliant scientist with an Irish twinkle in his eyes, and; former Communications Director Barbara McNeill.
While in Research I worked on the Inner Mechanism of the Healing Response program, the Remission Bibliography, The Heart of Healing Turner Broadcasting Series, Bill Moyers' Healing and the Mind, the Causality Project, and the Epistemology Project.
In Education I coordinated many of IONS' international conferences, its Community Group Network, and the Temple Awards for Creative Altruism...I produced and coordinated countless IONS receptions, salons, and events during most of my 25 years
This has been my work, my life. It's been exciting, fulfilling, challenging, insane, and always full of heart. I've laughed and cried with board, staff, IONS members, and even people I've never met. Through it all I became part of something important that made a difference in the world. With IONS I had work that filled my soul and was aligned with my personal mission.
And so from here on out, you will find me at my beloved Big Sur Coast transitioning from "Doing" as Rose@IONS to "Being" as BigSurRose, but always with a heart connection to IONS. I will restart the IONS Big Sur Community Group in 2015 and have already started taking the IONS Conscious Aging Workshop into the world.
And so a big THANK YOU! to all! I wish the IONS Board, Staff, and President Cassandra Vieten the very best in keeping IONS relevant in the next 40 years.

Beyond Our Sight
IONS' Chief Scientist Dean Radin was interviewed for this short documentary on Near Death Experiences (NDEs) by French filmmaker Antony Chene.
Dean wrote," It's mostly talking heads and stock film, but it's nicely done. He used one camera, one light, one mic, and no budget. This is the future of indie docs."
Ocala (FL) IONS CG member Arielle Ford wrote, "We saw a movie that opened our hearts, stirred our souls and made us laugh and cry!"
The movie is titled:
Hector and The Search for Happiness

University of Virginia has a Paranormal Activity Lab!
The Division of Perceptual Studies (DOPS) at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine is decidedly less fantastic than either Julavits's or Marvel's creations, but it's nevertheless a fascinating place. Founded in 1967 by Dr. Ian Stevenson-originally as the Division of Personality Studies-its mission is "the scientific empirical investigation of phenomena that suggest that currently accepted scientific assumptions and theories about the nature of mind or consciousness, and its relation to matter, may be incomplete."
