IONS Community Groups Network Newsletter                                             November  2013
Cathy Coleman
Dear IONS Global Community Network,

Our gratitude to everyone who has contributed to our global network's efforts to introduce ourselves to one another and to envision our way forward this fall.

Here's what happened at October's meeting at EarthRise:  Eight community group leaders gathered to work on next steps for strengthening the IONS community network. Together, we explored the relationship between community groups and "IONS hubquarters," new governance structures, and how to better serve IONS community group members.

SACIONS (Sacramento, CA) Community Group Leaders at the Retreat:  Bob Blackstone, Janet Walden, and Blake Paysse
We are now organizing the Community Group network into Passion Projects (a more exciting name for committees). The ones that came out of the retreat (and the people who stepped forward to lead them) are listed below. We're now calling for other CG members to join one of these project groups.
If you have another passion that isn't mentioned on this list, we're open to additional project groups. The Leadership Council will then consist of the leaders of these project groups. There will be one call monthly for the leadership council to check in with each other on the status of projects. This will be in addition to the monthly information call for all CG leaders. Here are our new Passion Groups and their Leader-Facilitators:

Community Group Tips Needed

Bejah Butterton is starting a new community group in Yucca Valley, California.  She is wondering what day of the week and time do others find works best for them? Are refreshments typically served?  Is an agenda or topic of the week or month usually sent out by email a couple of weeks before?

If you have advice or suggestions for Bejah you could write to her at:  [email protected]. Please copy me at [email protected] so that I can learn your tips, too, to pass on to others.

Consciousness Matters

This video was produced for IONS' 2011 Conference in San Francisco, CA, Noetic 2.0: Tools & Technologies for a World Transforming. It features Edgar Mitchell, Deepak Chopra, Marilyn Schlitz, Dean Radin and Cassandra Vieten in an exploration of the mysteries of inner space and the questions and values that drive the work of the Institute of Noetic Sciences. For 40 years the Institute of Noetic Sciences has explored the fundamental powers and potentials of consciousness using the tools of basic science.
Spotlight on a Community Group:  FIONS of New York City
New FIONS officers Dr. Kurt Johnson (President, 2nd from right, back row) and Victoria Friedman (Secretary, front row, right) host a strategy discussion of New York spiritual and activist leaders.

FIONS (Friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences), located in New York City, has been revitalized under the leadership of Kurt Johnson. In September the new board convened and elected officers and appointed a committee to revise the FIONS bylaws. Seventeen members stepped up to become new Board Members of FIONS. A larger circle of 26 NYC leaders has been working together to create a collective consciousness "work-together phenome." FIONS has been joined by several other groups (including upstate) who are visioning various projects. Recently they held a special fundraising 'Source of Synergy Salon' to support three causes close to Emily Squires' heart-one being the Friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

FIONS (Friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences), located in New York City, has been revitalized with the guidance of a circle of twenty-six leaders from various prominent NYC spiritual and transformational organizations and networks.

Among the visions for NYC, with the cooperation of a number of other citywide groups, may be a computer and "App" aided "Pilgrimage Trail" for NYC asking people to "re-vision" the future of many of NYC's great but now aging institutions. Since all seventeen members of the new FIONS board have been actively working in their own missions and work to join spirit and science, this new development for FIONS in NYC is very promising!

IONS Membership
"I encourage the community groups to voluntarily join in on the renewed effort to invigorate the community groups by joining a goal of increasing IONS membership.  The president's goal is to get membership up to 6,000 by the end of December 2013, and that means we need 724 new members. Since we have 170 community groups, we would reach beyond this goal with 5 new members from each group. New member brochures are available through your community group leaders or directly from Cathy Coleman, [email protected]

In physics, the term 'Choice Point' indicates a place of branching or forking, a point of possibility-the point of transformation.

A remarkable and powerful new documentary points the way to mankind's 'Choice Point,' the point at which each of us can individually pivot toward a life of fulfillment and service, and collectively impact the Choice Point of our world.
