Fond Farewell
I think we can all agree that this coming Sunday will be bitter-sweet. It is difficult to say "good-bye" to David as our minister (although
it is "see you soon" to our friends, David and Ellen). It is also heartwarming to know that David is continuing his journey and will surely affect many lives in our community in his new role at Amarillo College.

With this in mind, David has requested that we not have any special event after the service on Sunday. We do plan to fully acknowledge this change, but in a low-key way.

Should you want to share your "gift of the spirit" personally with David, we encourage you to send cards to him and share what he has meant to you. You can send these to David at his home address, which you can find in our directory or by calling the office.

Peace and Love,
Keralee Clay
Board President

Children's Religious Education Update
Our Children's Religious Education (CRE) program is divided into two groups by age. In CRE, which meets each Sunday at 11 AM, we challenge our children with interactive studies about religion and science.

The older children will be focusing on the following history topics during November:

November 8: The true story of Sasquatch (or) Bigfoot stepped on my foot!

November 15: Is your House Haunted?

November 22: Visitors from OUTER SPACE

November 29: A Bible Story

The nursery group will be focusing on the following topics during November:

November 8: Autumn Brings Changes to our Earth

November 15: Cooperation is Important

November 22: Thanksgiving: the Pilgrims and the Indians

November 29: How do Animals Prepare for Winter?

Lesson plans are subject to change, but this is the plan.

Read and Learn
Patricia Frevert, ed. Welcome: A Unitarian Universalist Primer. 2009.

This succinct handbook presents the beliefs, principles, sources, congregational covenant, chalice lightings, worship readings, songs ("Spirit of Life" and "We Gather Together"), views on religious education, history of the movement, quotable quotations, and a helpful glossary of UU terms. It makes an excellent resource for people curious about the church and for those considering membership or who have already signed the membership book.

UUA Southern Fall Conference - Glen Rose, Texas
Fall Conference is scheduled for November 13 through 15 at Glen Lake Camp and Conference Center near Glen Rose, Texas. The theme for this conference is "Into the FUUture!" Let's all register before October 26 (for discount) to boldly go where no UU congregation has gone before to gain tools and resources for charging ahead into the coming year, the next 10 years, or the next 10 decades. There are five tracks each designed to help leaders effect real cultural change toward growing a vital, healthy, effective UU community that helps its members achieve our vision of a world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all. Click here for more information. Contact Nina Stein to coordinate transportation and off site room sharing.

Fiction Book Group
Tuesday, November 17 - 7- 8:30 PM
at the Fellowship
November's selection: A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki -  In Ozeki's cleverly structured 2013 novel, a Canadian novelist becomes obsessed with a diary discovered in flotsam washed ashore from Japan.  Her attempts to discover the writer and perhaps to save her life produce a magical journey into the past.  A Booker Prize finalist.

The Fiction Book Group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Fellowship to discuss a new novel or collection of essays chosen by retired English professor Dick Moseley, who also facilitates the conversation.  All are welcome to attend, read the month's selection, and enjoy delving deeper into some of today's best new literature.

Fellowship Game Night
Friday, November 20 - 6:30 PM
Mark your calendar now!
"Sociable" UUs will gather between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m., bringing ingredients for Mexican pile-on, and begin eating around 6:30. When the meal is over, probably around 7 or so, we'll play games until around 9:30 or 10. If you have a favorite game, bring it to share. We'll post on the bulletin board by the kitchen a signup sheet for the dinner ingredients. If you prefer to come for just the meal or just the games, of course you're welcome. We hope to have a lively group to share in the festivities.

(For those with young kids, let's just include them in the fun rather than arrange for a nursery. There'll be games easy enough for them to play, with a little adult guidance. Some grandparent-types have already volunteered.)

Cancellation: November Meet the Artist
November's Meet The Artist event with Scott Hyde is cancelled---there wasn't enough time for him and his assistant (who has been in NYC for the past few weeks) to put together a program.   We hope to schedule him in the Spring!

December and June are our "dark" months, so the event will resume on January 12, 2016.  We're putting together an outstanding lineup of stars! Be sure to watch for the announcements on the website and in the newsletter.
