Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 7 - 8:30 PM

Andre Dubus III, author of the popular House of Sand and Fog, explores the complications of love in the four novellas that make up his collection, Dirty Love. Dubus's full range of compellingly developed characters, from a young girl to an elderly man, share in their longing for meaningful relationships in an environment dominated by social network trivialities and sexual exploitation. This cross section of the contemporary world is chilling in its moral implications but ultimately hopeful in its resolutions.
All are welcome to join the discussion, which will be held at the Fellowship.
The Fiction Book Group meets monthly (except May & December) to discuss the best in new literature, facilitated by Dr. Dick Moseley.

Leadership: Power and Authority
|
 Saturdays in October 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Every Saturday morning in October, the Leadership Development Committee is hosting a series of brief workshops intended to prepare members for serving our Fellowship in Board or committee positions. Everyone is invited to participate as often as possible in these Saturday workshops.
This Saturday (Oct. 18) from 9:30 - 11:30 AM: Power and Authority
Granted, these are ideas that we UU's generally have issues with! During this morning together, we will have a chance to reflect on some positive meanings and legitimate uses of both power and authority, as well as relieve any anxiety about being a leader/trusted servant.
The final workshop this year will be:
- Workshop 4 - October 25
Turning Points and Moments of Grace
Workshops are facilitated by our minister and/or a number of different talented, skilled and charming members of our congregation and our leadership development committee. Your presence is needed, wanted, and appreciated! We will enjoy these because we enjoy each other and our shared faith. Snacks provided. Join us for this adventure - you will love it! We now have 3 children's Religious Education (RE) groups:
- birth to age 5, taught by Sarah Brown;
- ages 6-9, taught by Maisie Everett and Wes Phillips; and
- ages 10 and up, taught by Vicki Schoen.
Sarah's class will be learning about autumn using curriculum from "Celebrating Me and My World." It ties into our seventh principle.
The other two classes use Tapestry of Faith. Maisie's class will learn how to make friends and have fun. They will make posters, hear a story, and play a game.
Vicki's class will continue filling a toolbox with items that symbolize the tools we use to be Unitarian Universalists. Next week they will concentrate on a magnifying glass, representing questioning.
