Welcome to the Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship! |
 |
"Love is the doctrine of this church."
If you're seeking a place of belonging where you can be free from judgment because of your beliefs or whom you love, or you simply need the freedom to grow on your own spiritual and intellectual journey, the AUUF might very well be the place for you.
Join us this Sunday at the Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4901 Cornell St. Come for either the 9:30 or 11 AM service - the content and format are the same. Childcare and school-age Children's Religious Education are provided during the 11 AM service only.
With events happening every week, we hope that you will find one or more that are of interest to you. Come to learn, to enjoy each other, and to work together. For a complete listing of events at the Fellowship, click on the Calendar icon to the left. Want more detail? Check both the News and the Events sections of our website, uuamarillo.org.
Also on our website, uuamarillo.org, you will find much more information about:
- our faith, Unitarian Universalism,
- our Fellowship,
- our calendar, and
- an ever-changing blog of news articles and items for thought which we believe are of interest to the liberal religious community.
All events are held at the Fellowship, 4901 Cornell St., unless otherwise noted. If you are unsure how to reach any of the individuals named as contacts, please email the AUUF office or call 806.355.9351 and leave a message. Your call will be returned during office hours, which are M-W-F from 9 AM to noon.
With welcoming arms for all,

Join us on Sunday, July 6 - 12:30 PM
Sign up! This month Rosemarie & Bill Kirland (potluck coordinators) posted a sign-up sheet for food. Unfortunately, not many of us found it. Look for one next month on the bulletin board across from the classroom. Choose your dish early and avoid the rush to claim deviled eggs! However, we would love for you to stay for the potluck even if you were unable to bring any food this time. We are hoping to avoid "bean Sunday" and "tabbouleh Sunday" when we have a table full of similar items.

Welcome from David Green, Minister The AUUF is dedicated to living out Unitarian Universalist principles binding us to a much larger and historically rich tradition. Our members are independent in mind and spirit, but united in our devotion to nurture and care for one another as well as our neighbors in Amarillo and around the world. Each AUUF member is free to follow her or his own spiritual path, making our congregation unique: rather than insisting on an identical religious doctrine, we're joined in love in the midst of a variety of beliefs. Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Atheists, Humanists, and Agnostics all find common ground here. As we affirm every Sunday during worship, "Love is the doctrine of this church," pure and simple. This reflects an emerging and positive social reality, where people of faith and goodwill can be brought together rather than torn apart over religion. One of the greatest joys of the AUUF is belonging to a community where we're always gaining new insight from beloved friends whose viewpoints and backgrounds may differ from our own. This freedom to responsibly follow our own path, ask questions, and find a supportive community truly makes the AUUF a "safe harbor." Our members are gay and straight, range from infants to older adults, embody different ethnicities, and come from all walks of life. We work for justice, tolerance, environmental responsibility, and strive to be peace-makers. Full text

From Vicki Schoen, Director of CRE (Children's Religious Education)
On Sunday, July 6, the children will be continuing two projects.
- An exercise to help us get to know each other better. You will be seeing the results of this in a few weeks.
- The lasagna garden. This project gets us in touch with the first and seventh Principles of Unitarian Universalism.
A lasagna garden is created in layers, making the perfect environment for the vegetables we will be planting. The project is designed to instill an appreciation for the nurturing of our earth. As a bonus, we can share the produce at pot luck, or the children can take it home.
The garden will be housed in a large planter made of recycled materials. It will be decorated with our kids' hand prints and ivy. The height is such that even people who have difficulty bending can work in it.
Say thanks to Linda Jackson and Sarah Brown for their creativity and effort!

Unitarian Universalism: 15 Statements of Belief
Unitarian Universalism is a covenantal, not creedal faith. That means that, although we may believe differently, we come together to search, grow, serve, and minister. Francis David said it best, "We need not think alike to love alike." Both Unitarianism and Universalism sprang from liberal Christianity. Unitarianism speaks to the nature of God as One: Holy, Transcendent, Immanent, Whole, Mystery. Universalism speaks to the nature of our relationships-with the Divine, with ourselves, with each other, and with the planet which we call home. - Michelle Buhite (Reprinted from the pamphlet, " To the Point: 15 Unitarian Universalist Elevator Speeches," Alicia LeBlanc, Ed.)
