Great Decisions Discussion Group
Tuesday, June 3, 2014 7 - 8:30 PM
The topic for this meeting is
China's Foreign Policy.China has gone to great lengths to emphasize the "peaceful" nature of its meteoric rise. Yet few dispute that China is the dominant regional power in Asia - and in recent years Beijing began to flex its muscles regionally in order to advance its strategic interests. What does the rapid rise of this new superpower mean for other countries in the region, and are there potential points of conflict with the U.S. as it "pivots" to Asia? There will be a 30 minute interview from PBS shown prior to our discussion. Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. Contact: Vicki Schoen

Flower Communion
|
Sunday, June 1
9:30 and 11 AM
Flower Communion is a ritual that celebrates beauty, human uniqueness, diversity, and community. In this ceremony, everyone in the congregation brings a flower of any type; live cut or artificial. For those who forget to bring a flower - and for our guests - extra flowers will be made available. Each person will place the flower on the altar in a shared vase. The congregation and minister bless the flowers and they are redistributed. Each person brings home a different flower than the one he or she brought. Please join us in this lovely ritual by bringing a flower on Sunday, June 1, as we celebrate the unique beauty and diversity of our beloved community.

The 7 Principles of Unitarian Universalism
5th Principle
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregation and society at large.
"In our religious lives, the democratic process requires trust in the development of each individual conscience - a belief that such development is possible for each of us, as well as a commitment to cultivate our own conscience. We could call it a commitment to the value of each person. In the words of Theodore Parker, 'Democracy means not "I am as good as you are," but "You are as good as I am."' My connection with the sacred is only as precious as my willingness to acknowledge the same connection in others." - Rev. Parisa Parsa
