All events are held at the Fellowship, 4901 Cornell St., unless otherwise noted. Tuesday, April 22 from 7 - 8:30 PMThis month's book: All That Is, by James Salter -
his first novel in 35 years. Salter, noted primarily for his highly compressed short fiction, is frequently described as "a writer's writer" in admiration for his mastery of the craft.
InAll That Is, he unfolds the life arc of one character, following him from military action in World War II through a career as a New York book editor and a life-long search for a meaningful relationship. Salter describes both the highlights and the tediums of life with the insightful and compressed imagery that his fans have come to expect. In the process he also delivers a portrait of American life in the late twentieth century. "Mad Men" may come to mind.
The Book Group meets monthly (excluding December) at the Fellowship to discuss a new novel or collection of essays chosen by retired English professor Dick Moseley, who also facilitates the conversation. All are welcome to attend, read the month's selection, and enjoy delving deeper into some of today's best new literature.
