Great Decisions Discussion Group
Tuesday, April 1 from 7 - 8:30 PM
(1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, February 18 through June 3)
The topic for Tuesday's meeting is
Islamic Awakening, and will explore the question "Is U.S. foreign policy adapting successfully to all the changes in the region?"The aftermath of the Arab Spring has resulted in unforeseen changes in the political landscape in many countries, especially regarding the role of Islam and democracy. How have the countries in the Maghreb reacted, including Tunisia, where the Arab Spring began? Is U.S. foreign policy adapting successfully to all of the changes in the region? Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. The name is shared by a national civic-education program, briefing book and television series administered and produced by the Foreign Policy Association. There will be a 30 minute interview aired by PBS shown prior to our discussion.

Standing on the Side of Love: Take action
|
Tell your members of Congress to stand on the side of love by denouncing vitriolic language in the public discourse.
After a contentious election year culminating in nail-biting fiscal cliff negotiations and in the face of upcoming debates on big issues such as preventing gun violence and comprehensive immigration reform, we find ourselves in search of a more compassionate national dialogue.
At this crucial moment in time, use your voice to ask your members of Congress to stand on the side of love by denouncing vitriolic language in the public discourse and committing to a more respectful, bipartisan climate. |

Welcome to the Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship! |
 |
Do you attend regularly? Sometimes? Rarely? Not yet? No matter the answer to those questions, you are welcome. Come to either the 10 or 11 AM service; the content and format are the same, so you won't miss anything. You can even see your old friends between the two services. Childcare is provided only during the 11 AM service. At least one of the events described in this newsletter is probably of interest to you, so give it a try. For a complete listing of events at the Fellowship, click on the Calendar icon. Want more detail? Check both the News and the Events sections of our website ( uuamarillo.org).
On our website, uuamarillo.org, you will find more information about Unitarian Universalism, our Fellowship, the calendar, and an ever-changing blog of news articles and items for thought which we believe are of interest to the liberal religious community. All events are held at the Fellowship, 4901 Cornell St., unless otherwise noted. If you are unsure how to reach any of the individuals named as contacts, please email the AUUF office or call 806.355.9351 and leave a message. Your call will be returned during office hours, which are M-W-F from 9 AM to noon.
With welcoming arms for all,
The AUUF Beloved Community

Following the 11 AM service on April 6,
we will hold the annual congregational meeting.

Last Sunday's message from Connie Garcia, director of Martha's Home, was a timely reminder of the ways in which our Fellowship contributes to those in our community who are in need - and of the ongoing need for our contributions.
Bring items for at least one of the agencies we support every time you come to the Fellowship. Together, we can make a real difference.
As part of our Social Action initiatives, we participate in 3 programs serving specific populations in and around Amarillo. Here is a list of those organizations, a link to learn more about the services each provides, and the items that AUUF gathers to donate to their clients.
Women's and children's toiletries (particular need - women's hygiene products)
Men's toiletries (regular & travel sizes)
in 7 or 7.5-oz cans (yes, size matters) (Examples: Vienna sausage, stew, chili, ravioli, spaghetti, lasagna)Contact one of these agencies to learn about other ways in which you can help them.

Sunday, March 30
12:30 - 3:00 PM
We're excited! A committed group of parents met this past Sunday to prepare for the Our Whole Lives (OWL) comprehensive sexuality education program. We will begin by offering the program for children age 5-7 (approximately grades K-1) this spring. We will provide the course for older elementary-age children (about grades 4-6) in the fall.
This Sunday will be the Parent/Child Orientation Meeting for families who are enrolling a child in the K-1 program. It is essential that both parents and the child(ren) attend this meeting.
We will hold concurrent sessions for
children and the parents, followed by a group that everyone will attend to set the foundation for the program.
A light lunch will be provided. We will have childcare for siblings for this meeting.
OWL Schedule (each session from 12:30 - 2:45 PM)
- April13, 2014
- April 27, 2014
- May11, 2014
- May 25, 2014
A light lunch will be provided at al sessions.
