Learn with us: Great Decisions Discussion Group
|
|
Monday, March 3
7 - 8:30 PM
(Note date change for this meeting only)
The topic for this meeting is Israel and the US. There will be a 30 minute interview aired by PBS shown prior to our discussion.
Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. The discussion group usually meets at the Fellowship on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, 7 PM-8:30 PM, February 18 through June 3. This week's meeting date has been changed due to a conflict with election day.
The name is shared by a national civic-education program, briefing book and television series administered and produced by the Foreign Policy Association. The Great Decisions program highlights eight of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans each year. Great Decisions provides background information, current data and policy options for each issue and serves as the focal text for discussion groups.

SAVE THE DATES FOR SOUTHERN REGION ANNUAL ASSEMBLIES
Our Southern Region will hold its first-ever simultaneous Annual Assemblies, April 25-26. The Assemblies will feature a keynote address by UUA moderator Jim Key.
Jim will address attendees in each of four locations on Saturday morning - live via the internet. He will speak to our shared theme, "Love Reaches Out", which is also the theme of our Association's General Assembly in Providence, RI, June 25 -29.
The Annual Assembly for the Southwest UU Conference (SWUUC) will be held at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas. It was announced at the SWUUC Women's Conference this past weekend that Holly Near will provide entertainment.
Registration details and other information will be distributed soon.

Early... on Sunday morning?
|
|

from Eric Berg
Hey, it's nine o'clock Sunday morning.I better get up and get dressed.I gotta get to the ten o'clock service at the Fellowship. Good thing I can get my coffee and maybe a light snack there or I might be late. (Even if I am a little late - it's the Unitarians, they won't mind.)
Ever find yourself the player in the above Sunday morning scenario?I do.Most Sunday mornings I break my weekday habits and head out to the early service.
Hell, I'm often there by nine o'clock makin'coffee for the couple dozen of us that attend. All three kinds and hot water for tea and cocoa!
If you've noted a little good spirited prodding in this article,I'm doing my job. My job is to convince you to come to the early service. Not every Sunday - once or twice a month would be fine. I will warn you, however, that the early service can be habit-forming. A bit more laid back but the same great program with smaller crowds.
So, as I see it we collectively face some choices at the Fellowship:
1. More of us can come to the ten o'clock service so
there's more space at eleven. That way we
continue to grow sustainably and fully utilize our
facility.
2. We could start a building campaign right now.
We're going to have to do it sooner or later.
Starting now would require greater individual
giving because a smaller membership base would
be supporting the campaign.
3. We could stop growing. That would close the
door on all those new folks who are coming. I
don't think any of us like that option.
4. Or.. more of us could get up and COME TO THE
10:00 SERVICE!
If we could get 40 or 50 folks at that service (instead of 20 to 30) it would help us over this "space crunch" hump.
Come on down... I'll put extra coffee on for you!
