In January, our Adult Religious Education group began a study of Skeptics and Believers: Religious Debate in the Western Intellectual Tradition, a course authored by Tyler Roberts, Ph.D.
"With the advent of modernity, the questions on which philosophers and religious thinkers had been reflecting for centuries underwent a dramatic and unprecedented change."

Israeli Peace Activists to Speak

Saturday, February 1 at 7 PM 
The AUUF Social Action Committee is collaborating with The Peace Farm to host this talk by Eran Efrati and Maya Wind as part of The Soldier and the Refusenik speaking tour. Pursuit of a Just Peace for Israelis & Palestinians is one of the proposed Study/Action Issuesfor the Unitarian Universalist Association.
Efrati and Wind say that "(i)n our talk, we share our experiences of joint Palestinian-Israeli struggle for justice and equality. We discuss direct action and protest in the West Bank and efforts to educate the Israeli public about the occupation. We also share our experiences of growing up in segregated Jerusalem and of our Zionist and militaristic education." Contact: Rick Todd

Mentor Meet & Greet for the Promise Project, whose mission is to help break the inter-generational cycle of incarceration. The Promise Project is in search of people willing to make a difference in a child's life by dedicating one to two hours a week to working with a child or youth.If you are in search of a way help your community, why not volunteer to mentor a child?

February 2, 2014 Claudia Stravato will speak and Mike Fuller will sing, as they share the story Singing for God: The Conversion of Cat Stevens to Islam. February 9, 2014 David Green is speaking on Sending Valentines Every Day, discussing how life-long loving relationships are nurtured and sustained through practical intentionality with our friends, family members, and partners and spouses.

This week is the final meeting in the series of 3 Path to Membership gatherings. Attending Path to Membership gatherings is an important step in becoming an AUUF member, as outlined in our membership policy. You must attend all 3 weekly meetings to complete this step.

 Tuesday Jan. 28 - 7 PM The UU book group will discuss Christopher Moore's comic novel, Fool, a send up of Shakespeare's King Lear. Lear, of course, made a mess of things but his faithful court jester gives us the inside story of how it all came about and of his own central role in the fiasco.
For those brave enough to forge on (after being forewarned!), the group will gather at 7:00 p.m. at the Fellowship to discuss the novel. All are invited.

A favorite AUUF tradition since - well, almost since the beginning (in 1950)! Circle dinners are fun occasions where you can get to know Fellowship members and friends. Sign up soon - especially for the first dinner which is in less than two weeks! Sign-up lists are on the bulletin board across from the kitchen. Last year all the dinners filled up early, so reserve your spot now and don't miss out! This year you may select from the following 10 (yes TEN!) dinner dates. The host(s) for each date are listed; please contact them directly if you can't get to the Fellowship to sign your name.
