As with any survey, the comments you include are the most helpful to our understanding. Citywide Beans & Cornbread Luncheon
|
Monday, November 18 11:30 AM - 2 PM
North Exhibit Hall & Heritage Room (Entrance #3)
Amarillo Civic Center
The Beans and Cornbread Luncheon is the 'kickoff' for the yearly Interfaith Campaign for the Homeless. The money raised goes to help the 520 homeless people that will be sleeping in a bed in a shelter in Amarillo on any given night and many others who are in the process of changing their lives for the better. Featured speaker, William C. Moyers, is the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir, Broken: My Story of Addiction and Redemption. We hope that you will join us and help support the Interfaith Campaign for the Homeless!
The generous support of AUUF members and friends at the AUUF Beans & Cornbread Dinner which was held on November 4 at the Fellowship has allowed the Fellowship to support the Interfaith Campaign for the Homeless with a total of more than $750 to benefit the citywide effort in support of the homeless.

About Our Potluck Lunches...
|
The Potluck Lunch on the 1st Sunday of each month is one of our Fellowship's oldest traditions. It is a wonderful time to visit with members you don't get to see very often, and to meet new members and make them feel like valued members of our beloved community. The food is great too! A couple will be asked each month to set up the Potluck Lunch. They will ask others to assist them. Clean up volunteer sheets are on the counter in the kitchen. Please sign up for at least one clean-up each year. It requires about an hour after the lunch. It is fun working with other members to maintain our Fellowship. So, please sign up. If you have brought dishes and pans for a Potluck Lunch, please pick them up this Sunday. Our kitchen is overflowing and we need to organize it.

...The above message from Claudia Stravato, which includes a few words about the state of our kitchen, provides a great segue for me (Martha Baird) to talk about the refrigerator. For many years now I have subscribed to the germ theory of disease, and therefore took it upon myself to toss all the expired salad dressings, mayo, chocolate syrup, etc. from the refrigerator. There is not much left! So you need not look for it there - bring it new when you need it.

Guest at Your Table
|
Sunday, November 24, 2013
Guest At Your Table is an annual tradition in which congregation members learn about people with whom the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee is working. This year, we are featuring people who have empowered others to realize their human rights. Various AUUF members will share a stories of four UUSC workers. These people are your "guests," and we ask you to share your blessings with them to support our shared mission. celebrating Guest at Your Table, you are helping nurture a spirit of gratitude and "justice, equity, and compassion in human relations." Guest at Your Table fosters understanding and awareness of UUSC's human rights work. A special offering will be collected in support of UUSC at the 10 AM and 11 AM worship services on Nov. 24.

Lower your taxes Help AUUF grow
It's no secret that our Fellowship is growing and we love it! The Stewardship Committee wants you to be aware that recent tax law changes once again allow AUUF members and friends who are over 70½ years of age to revisit your IRAs and consider the possibility of donating 'qualified distributions' directly from your IRA to the Fellowship. An end of year IRA donation can lower your tax bill for 2013 and can be the seed money for future growth plans being developed by the Long Range Strategic Planning Committee. Since by law you have to take a distribution, why not consider donating all or part of it to the Fellowship rather than have it add to your income thereby increasing your taxable income and your tax bill? See more details by clicking IRA donation.
