Our restroom accessibility project is underway! It began Wednesday, October 9 with a 3-day process of asbestos abatement being performed by a licensed contractor. Some areas of the building will be sealed off, and once the abatement process is complete, remodeling work on the restroom will begin in earnest.

Please be patient with us - and know that any dust will be messy but free of asbestos - as this important upgrade is performed. The end result will be a fully-accessible and beautifully-remodeled restroom!

Note of thanks from Martha
I wish to express my heartfelt thanks for all of the support I've received during my father's final days and the week since his death.

Thanks to David, the Caring Committee, and all the members and friends who have been there for me in so many ways. I've treasured every text, phone call, and card - but most of all the outpouring of love that has sustained me.

Thank you to those who were able to attend his service on Monday. Your presence meant more than you can know.

Again, thanks.

Join the Responding with Love Network

Thousands responded to the August 2012 shooting at the Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, by writing messages of love and support to the Sikh community there. Anytime there is an act of violence targeting people because of their identities, we can and should reaffirm a message of love and a vision of a country where we all belong.

In that spirit,  Standing on the Side of Love is gathering a network of people to send messages surrounding victims of violence with an outpouring of love whenever incidents of hate occur. From the shooting in Oak Creek to the arson attack on a mosque in Joplin, we can ensure that victims of senseless acts of hate know that they are loved.

Beans & Cornbread - and ALT??

Q: So just what is it that Beans & Cornbread have in common with the Amarillo Little Theater?

A: Tickets!  (Both are places you might obtain 2 tickets to the ALT play of your choice.)

How? If you donate $35 or more to help AUUF host a table at the citywide Beans & Cornbread Luncheon on November 18, your name will be entered in a drawing for 2 tickets to ALT!

You choose the play, you choose the date - but choose to support the Interfaith Campaign for the Homeless, and - through them - the Amarillo Coalition for the Homeless. Remember that all donations are matched by the Don & Sybil Harrington Foundation, so your gift will go twice as far to help feed hungry men, women, and children in Amarillo.

And don't forget! The AUUF Beans & Cornbread Dinner to benefit the citywide effort will be held at the Fellowship on Monday, November 4 at 6:30 PM.

Book Group: The Secret Keeper
Tuesday, October 22 - 7 PM

Ann Benedetti will moderate the discussion of The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, an award-winning Australian author.

The center of the novel is London during WW II, but it extends forward to the current day, when a British actress feels compelled to explore her family's past as her mother nears the end of her life.  The book has the feel of a Victorian novel, with more twists, turns, and surprises than even Dickens could imagine.

The UU book group meets every fourth Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. to discuss works of contemporary fiction.  Book group selections are chosen by retired English professor Dick Moseley. The book for November will be Dear Life by Alice Munroe. Anyone interested in spirited discussion is invited.

Holiday BASH! Mark your calendar

Our first BIG SOCIAL of the year will be held Friday night , December 6th.  Everyone will have the opportunity to "strut their stuff" at a catered dinner-dance in Chandler Hall.

Instead of members and friends setting up, cooking, serving and cleaning up, you will be served this time!  You deserve it! There will probably be a very modest fee to attend.

The menu is still a secret!  The DJ is still a secret.  During the dinner the more talented members of the Fellowship show their myriad talents.  This is going to be FUN and sophisticated.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month:
National Call of Unity

Did you miss the Call of Unity? A recording of the session can be heard via  this link with messages from national leaders, survivors, and advocates, and the dual-voice spoken word poems of ClimbingPoeTREE.

The 4th Annual National Call of Unity Summary (Storify) includes links to the inspiring resources that were shared including poetry, prayer, stories, and words of gratitude and hope.

The Universal Prayer offered during the National Call of Unity reads, in part,

Bless us with the strength to greet each day with energy and purpose as we work to eradicate sexual and domestic violence and terror.

Grant us the wisdom to recognize stumbling blocks for what they are and the creativity to maneuver our way around them.

 Our Mission

a free and responsible search for truth and meaning,
and to be a respected public voice
