Family Camping Trip

Palo Duro Canyon The Children's Religious Education (RE) will host a family camping trip to Palo Duro Canyon. We will will leave at noon on Saturday from the Fellowship (as a group) and return in time for the 11 AM Worship Service on Sunday. We hope that all families with children in RE are able to join us. One adult (friend or family member) should accompany each group of siblings. We will be staying in Fortress Cliff if any latecomers or visitors would like to join us. During October of every year, the nation observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The themes of the month are: - Mourning those who have died because of domestic violence;
- Celebrating those who have survived; and
- Connecting those who work to end violence.

David Green is speaking on The Muslim Next Door, discussing the growing Muslim population in the US and implications for religious and cultural diversity.

David Green will speak on Science and The Afterlife, discussing recent trends in science and culture attempting to explain what happens after we die.

Path to Membership

7 PM - 8:30 PM
Path to Membership gatherings are held periodically through the year for those wishing to learn more about joining the Fellowship. Held at the AUUF October 9 is the final session in the series of 3.
Each informal gathering is led by David Green and includes sharing by long-term AUUF members. Unitarian Universalist history, beliefs, and practices are discussed, as well as AUUF history, structure, and expectations of membership. Attending Path to Membership gatherings is an important step in becoming an AUUF member, as outlined in our membership procedure.

The Walk for Mental Health is being held by NAMI-Texas Panhandle, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and the Amarillo Area Mental Health Consumers, who run the Agape Center. This Walk is being held in an attempt to raise mental health awareness, to promote the message that "There is no health without mental health." Proceeds from the Walk will go towards the free support groups, classes, and activities offered by NAMI-Texas Panhandle and the AAMHC Agape Center. These free programs are for those living with mental illness and their family members in our community. Online Registration form You may also register on site the day of the Walk. Beans & Cornbread Save the Dates!

November 4, 2013 AUUF Beans & Cornbread Dinner 7 PM at AUUF
The Social Action Committee invites you to a full filled, and fun filled evening of sharing food and helping the homeless in Amarillo. Bring your version of beans, corn bread, or stew to the Fellowship to share with fellow members and friends. We ask for free will donaions to host at least one table at the city-wide Beans & Cornbread Luncheon.

The city-wide Beans and Corn Bread Luncheon, supporting the Interfaith Campaign for the Homeless, will be held on November 18th in the North Exhibit Hall of the Amarillo Civic Center. Since 1994 the campaign has raised $2.6 million, with matching funds provided by The Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation. This year's featured speaker is William C. Moyers, author of the New York Times best selling memoir, Broken: My Story of Addiction and Redemption.
