Committee Fair
Sunday, September 1, 2013 12:30 PM

Connect! Volunteer!

During this Committee Fair (yes, we'll be having the potluck at the same time!) you will have an opportunity to meet our Committee chairpersons, learn what the committees do -- and of greater importance -- find a place to use your talents.

Each committee is a team of volunteers who serve the Fellowship. From parties and community service to painting the hallways and greeting visitors, our volunteer committees are the magic behind this Beloved Community.

Anyone-AUUF friend or member-can serve on a committee. Serve for an hour or a week, once a month or once a year. It's up to you. There are many opportunities and you can find the fit that's right for you.

Monthly Book Group: The Burgess Boys
Tuesday, August 27, 2013 - 7 PM

This month's book: The Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout.
The new novel by the author of Olive Kitteridge follows two brothers as they return home to help a troubled nephew.

The Book Group meets monthly (excluding December) at the Fellowship to discuss a new novel or collection of essays chosen by retired English professor Dick Moseley, who also facilitates the conversation. All are welcome to attend, read the month's selection, and enjoy delving deeper into some of today's best new literature.
Zealot Book Talk
Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 - 7:30 PM
Location: Chalice Abbey, 2717 Stanley

David Green discusses the bestselling
Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan.
Zealot explores the historical world of Jesus the person, shedding light on the social and political turbulence of First-Century Palestine and the reasons for his execution, and how early Christians recast Jesus as the Christ.

The book discussion takes place at the Chalice Abbey Center for Spirituality and the Arts at 2717 Stanley (one block West of Georgia; one block South of Wolflin).
Hiking/Camping in New Mexico
September 13-15, 2013 (leave and return in evenings)

A few of us decided we needed to go camping before the snow flies! Join the Music Team and the Hiking Team to spend the weekend in beautiful New Mexico. Sugarite Canyon State Park is located near Raton, NM, about a 4-hour drive from Amarillo; click here for driving directions. We can all enjoy good camping facilities, lots of trails for hiking and fun things to do in the town of Raton. They are making progress on handicapped access; check closer to the date to learn if the site is accessible.

We hope to carpool, and need to have a head count because we must make reservations. Please RSVP to Andrea Byers or Wendy Hearn.

 Our Mission
