Dear DEC Members,
The Division for Early Childhood has been busy thanks to our many active DEC members serving in leadership roles to help implement many of DEC's ongoing activities and initiatives.
We are gearing up for our upcoming DEC Conference, which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, from October 7-9, 2015. Conference attendees can register online. This year's conference theme, "The Time Is Always Right to Do What Is Right" (MLK, 1964) for Young Children and Families, features leading experts from around the world in early intervention, early childhood special education, and related disciplines. Our conference program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge of those who work with or on behalf of young children with special needs and their families.
We also urge all members to take action and tell Congress to invest in programs for young children with special needs. We need you to advocate and send a letter to Congress today!
Thank you, Leah Weiner, Ed.D. Executive Director of the Division for Early Childhood

TELL CONGRESS TO INVEST IN YOUNG CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS | |
The House and Senate have started the annual process to decide funding levels for education programs, including special and gifted education. Budgets are tight and Congress is under extreme pressure to keep funding to a minimum. Tell Congress that education cannot absorb any more funding cuts!
Children and youth with exceptionalities, their families, and the educators who work on their behalf rely on a healthy federal investment in special/gifted education to support positive outcomes!
TAKE ACTION TODAY AND SEND A LETTER TO YOUR U.S. SENATOR AND U.S. REPRESENTATIVE

Ownership Linkages: Connecting with owners (DEC
members and community stakeholders) to learn their values about what outcomes they desire for the organization and what means of reaching these outcomes would be unacceptable to them.
Policy Development: Translating into policy what owners tell the Board they want as DEC outcomes, assigning responsibility for meeting DEC outcomes and setting the ethical and practical limitations necessary to protect the organization.
Assurance of Organizational Performance: Monitoring the Executive Office and board behavior to ensure that DEC demonstrates reasonable progress toward desired DEC's outcomes and reasonable compliance with the policies guiding the means to reach the outcomes.
