Want to save more for your retirement? The District of Columbia 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan works together with your 401(a) Retirement Plan or Defined Benefit Pension to help you build a secure retirement. Here's how to enroll in your 457(b) Plan.

How do I enroll?
Here's where you can sign up for the 457(b) Plan:
  • Attend a group seminar: Browse upcoming seminars to pick a topic, then simply register online to attend. A plan representative can help you enroll when you are at the seminar.
  • Set up a one-on-one appointment with a plan representative: You may register online for a meeting. Your rep can talk with you in detail about the 457(b) Plan and answer any questions, in addition to making sure your account is all set up.
  • Visit a local service center:

What happens when I enroll?
Here's what to expect when enrolling in the 457(b) Plan:
  • Enrollment Form
    • Provide your relevant personal information.
    • Decide how much from each paycheck to contribute toward your retirement.
    • Select investments that align with your personal goals.
  • Beneficiary Designation Form
    • Designate your beneficiaries: Let us know of a loved one(s) whom you'd like to receive your savings after you pass away.
The District helps make retirement planning a breeze:
  • Convenient, 24/7 online account management.
  • Investment options that take the guesswork out of investing, from (age-based) Target Date Funds to Guided Pathways® Investment Advice services.
  • User-friendly education resources at www.DCRetire.com.
  • Download the ICMA-RC mobile app to view or manage your account on-the-go: www.icmarc.org/mobile-app.
Introducing: TextAccess
Phones
If you're always on the go but your mobile phone never leaves your side, sign up for the new TextAccess feature, which allows you to request account information and have it sent directly to your phone via text.

To sign up, log into your account at www.DCRetire.com and navigate to the Account Notifications page. After signing up, you can get information including:your account balance, your last contribution amount, and your rate of return.

If you have multiple accounts, you also have the option of creating a nickname for each account.

How it Works
After you sign up, you can begin requesting information by texting one of the commands below to ICMARC (426272)*:
  • BAL: Balance Information
  • BAL [Nickname]: Balance Information (for the specified account)
  • CONT: Last Contribution Amount
  • NICK: List of self-selected names for each plan
  • ROR: Rate of Return (year-to-date)
  • HELP: List of Commands.
