Foster Care at Foothills Animal Shelter helps more than 700 pets each year
Whether they are too young to care for themselves, recovering from a health problem or surgery, or just need some extra time and TLC, our Foster Care Program is here to help homeless animals in need. Animals like Topher, a Shih Tzu Mix that needed surgery and physical therapy after being hit by a car; Luna, a Mastiff Mix that received months of medical care, training, and socialization; and Sirius Black, a long-haired cat that suffered serious burns and needed attentive care while he healed. Click to read their stories.
What makes the Foster Care Program work? Just two very dedicated staff members and an amazing team of 150 volunteers! There is nothing quite as rewarding as playing an instrumental role in helping an animal heal, grow and thrive.
Unable to volunteer, but still want to make a difference? Your gift will help us care for the more than 700 pets that are in desperate need of our Foster Care Program, plus the nearly 7,300 others that we care for each year.
The cost of care for a healthy animal with a quick stay at our Shelter is just $225. This cost can rise dramatically for homeless pets that are in need of more specialized care, but a gift in any amount will help our life-saving work.

Baby animals need your help!
Our Shelter's nursery and foster homes are already caring for 100 baby kittens, puppies and nursing mother cats and dogs. Soon, in the warmer months, this number will quadruple as more litters are brought in for specialized care. Thanks to friends like you, we can provide these baby animals with round-the-clock bottle feedings, cozy home environments, and preventative care. Please help us stock our pantry with the necessities for these babies to grow into healthy, adoptable pets! |
Too much of a cute thing?
Spring's warmer weather leads to a large number of pregnant and nursing mother animals, and helpless litters of baby kittens and puppies - many of which are brought to Foothills Animal Shelter. Sadly, far too many pets have babies that end up unwanted or abandoned. What happens to a baby kitten - just days old - discovered hungry and alone?

This sweet young cat arrived at our Shelter in mid-January. Our Health Care Team discovered that he has a sensitive stomach. Javi spent months in Foster Care as we tried different food and monitored his health. Now on a special prescription diet, Javi is energetic, playful and ready for adoption!
