End of the Trail Original Art Rabbit Shield Wall Art
 
This original one-of-a-kind hand painted End of the Trail scene is painted on the back of a genuine rabbit fur. The hoop is 12" in diameter (30.48cm) and covered with white buckskin leather. It has 14 white deerskin streamers decorated with colorful pheasant feathers and glass crow beads. The bottom of the fringes are each tipped with long pheasant tail feathers. Overall length is about 46" (1.1684 metres), not counting the leather hanger strap.

His father was Chief Black Eagle and his mother was White Swan, the sister of Chief Crazy Horse. Thus, he was a nephew of the famous Sioux leader Chief Crazy Horse.

Cherokee and Sioux courtship and wedding customs

In the very near future, I am planning on asking a woman of mixed Sioux and Cherokee descent to marry me. Her family history is obscure but I would like to recognize her partial native american heritage by making a traditional request for her hand, if such a tradition exists. If you could point me in the proper direction, I would be apppreciative.

Hi Jim,

Most of the customs of the Cherokee and Sioux that would be practiced today apply more to the wedding ceremony than the courtship period.

In the old days, marriages were usually arranged by the parents in both Sioux and Cherokee society, and the formal request for a bride was made by presenting gifts (the bride price - usually food, blankets, and fine clothing, and later horses) to the bride's parents, who made the decision to accept or reject....
