We are drawn together in Seeking the Spirit, Building Community, and Changing the World.

Dear Congregation Members and Friends:

While we may be complex in our diverse backgrounds, situations, aspirations, roles and beliefs, we are drawn together as one in "seeking the spirit, building community and changing the world." Hence the theme of this year's stewardship campaign is "We are..." in order to capture in words and images how varied we are in this congregation.

As we sit at the edge of a number of transitions, which include calling a new associate minister as well as facing uncertain geopolitical realities in the nation and the world, we know we can count on the strength and stability of our congregation.  It is the one place where it is evident that our voices and our votes matter.

In the last few weeks we have heard many of these voices-from every generation among us-from 10 year old Dela Cusack to 100+ year old Virginia Clendenning.  Everyone matters.  We respect one another's positions.  We listen to one another's challenges.  We join one another to bring social justice where needed.  We work together to bring about change.  We support our elders.  We aid the homeless.  We teach our children.  We learn from our youth.  We listen with awe to gifts of music.  We are swept with emotion by the sermons and stories from our ministers.  We are nurtured by the staff.  We love one another.

Everything in this congregation has been made possible by the combination of service and stewardship we give.  This is the time of the year when each of us determines how much we are capable of committing to ensure the ongoing viability of this congregation.  Our past two stewardship drives fell short of our goal for fair and sustainable compensation for every staff member.  It is the board's vision that together we can provide enough funding to support our values by being fair to our staff, in addition to our ministers and ongoing projects and task forces.  Our goal for this campaign is $565,000, a 7.5% increase over the amount pledged last year.

We invite you to think about how important our members, friends, children, staff and ministers are to your world.  We thank you for your past support and welcome your generosity as we reach yet new milestones in our journey together.  We are the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Sideli
President, Board of Directors
