Living Is No Laughing Matter

Nazim Hikmet
(1902-63) was one of the leading international poets of the 20th century and possibly Turkey's most gifted writer. Yet the Turkish government for decades refused to recognize him, and only recently has promised to allow his poetry in school textbooks. That is because he was also one of the first prisoners of conscience in Turkey...

Filmmaker Stephanie Capparell will be on hand to discuss the film.

Presented in collaboration with New Haven Dept. of Arts, Culture & Tourism; City of New Haven Peace Commission; Greater New Haven Peace Council; Promoting Enduring Peace; Turkish Society of Yale Graduate Students and Scholars; Yale Council on Middle East Studies at MacMillan Center
