Members of The East Haddam Stage Company present a live action "radio" drama complete with sound effects and audience participation!
Sherlock Holmes and The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Saturday, Nov. 30, 3-4 pm You are invited to be the "studio audience" of this recreation of the 1930 radio script in which renowned actor William Gillette (1853-1937) portrayed Sherlock Holmes on the radio for the first time. The NHFPL Foundation is hosting this special fundraiser for the library. Tickets are $15 ind./$25 family and are available by calling 203-946-7454.

Saturday, Nov. 2, 2 pm The Kaiser's Lackey (1951), East German film directed by Wolfgang Staudte, based on Heinrich Mann's 1918 satirical novel by the same name. Jason Doerre, a Fellow at Trinity College, introduces this film which is part of the 20@20 DEFA Anniversary Film Tour.

Celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema with monthly screenings of classic films selected and introduced by NHFPL librarian Soma Mitra. Nov. 23: Umrao Jaan (1981), directed by Muzaffar Ali. In Hindi with English subtitles. Based on an Urdu novel by Mirza Hadi Ruswa, this film is set in 1840 and portrays the life of a famous Lucknow courtesan. Running time 145 min.
