One More Day of Spirit Wear Sales

Congratulations to Emma Edmondson and Gabriel Smith for winning the t-shirt design contest! Come see their new t-shirt at our last spirit wear sale before the holidays--Wednesday, December 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the lobby of the SC building. We have lots of great ideas for those last minute gifts.
Congratulations Monica Smith!

Congratulations to Myers Park teacher Monica Smith, the North Carolina winner in Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow contest. Samsung created the Solve for Tomorrow contest to create interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects among students. Teachers nationwide filled out an online application. From those applicants, five teachers per state were chosen to submit a lesson plan on the topic "Show how STEM can be applied to help your local community."  One teacher per state was chosen as the state winner--for North Carolina, that was Monica Smith, representing MPHS.  Each state winner receives a Samsung camcorder and laptop to create a video of their solution to the topic and $20,000 in technology for Myers Park.  Fifteen national finalists will be chosen from the state winners.  Their schools will receive $35,000 in technology.  Five national winners will be chosen from the finalists.  Go Monica Smith and MPHS!

Annual English Department Book Fair at Barnes & Noble--Tomorrow & Sunday

The annual Book Fair will be held at Barnes & Noble Southpark (corner of Sharon Road and Colony Road at Morrison) this Saturday and Sunday, December 13 & 14.  The English Department receives a portion of every purchase by a student, parent or friend of the school. The proceeds buy supplemental books and materials for all English classes.  Virtually everything we buy during this weekend at the store--books, food and drink, gifts and the Nook e-reader--results in credits for the school.  All you have to do is say you wish to support Myers Park when you check out.  If you buy online or later in the week (the fundraiser runs from December 12 - December 19), use the following voucher number so that Myers Park still receives credits: 11489440.  Don't forget to stop by the MP English teacher table to pick up a homework pass for your student and say hello to the teachers working. Please consider making your holiday gift purchases at the MP Book Fair this weekend and supporting your English teachers.
So Much Music Next Week!

You are invited to the Winter Band Concert on Tuesday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium.  Four bands will be performing holiday music.  Also, the drawing will be held for the 1st Annual MP Mustang Band Raffle.  The winner receives $2,000.

The next day, you are invited to the Holiday Orchestra Concert on Wednesday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. The program will include holiday, contemporary and classical music.

The next day, you are invited to the Choral Concert on Thursday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. There will be a reception with desserts and punch following the concert.
