GSCP2P Girl Scout Receives National Young Women of Distinction Honor
We are very excited to announce that one of our very own Girl Scouts has been selected as one of 10 National Young Women of Distinction.

Elizabeth Martin from Clyde and a member of Girl Scout Troop 30250 was selected from 137 applicants from across the country, with each finalist's application being reviewed over five times.

For her project, Elizabeth wrote and illustrated an original set of preschool books focused on bullying. She also put together costumes to go along with the books so the kids could act the scenes out. She put these materials, as well as bullying activities, a brochure for parents and a video, in boxes and distributed them to The Regional Center for the Advancement of Children at Haywood Community College, Central UMC Daycare, Waynesville and Canton Public Libraries, Southwestern Child Development Commission and Western Carolina University Daycare.

Because of Elizabeth's dedication and passion toward her Gold Award project, she has been selected among the movement's top Gold Award recipients. Congratulations!

Volunteer Today & Be the Role Model She's Always Wanted!
As summer comes to an end, a new school year begins, including opportunities for local girls and adults to become a Girl Scout.

Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont has opportunities in all 40 of our counties for volunteers who are committed to helping girls develop courage, confidence and character. The two go hand in hand; in other words, without the adult leaders, there is no Girl Scouting.

V
olunteers are the heart and soul of Girl Scouting - and Kimberly Wells of Mocksville is one volunteer who has served as a troop leader for Troop 02146 for three years.

"Girl Scouting teaches girls life skills and builds confidence to one day be leaders," Wells said. "I love seeing the girls work as a team to accomplish what they need and want to do."

Troop Spotlight
Troop Collects Stuffed Animals
Girl Scout Daisy/Brownie Troop 2844 organized a stuffed animal drive at Rocky River Elementary. The girls collected over 200 animals and they were donated to the local fire and police stations and the NC Highway Patrol Station to give out to children involved in emergency situations.
Troop Helps Local Animal Shelter
Girl Scout Troop 41001 completed their Girl Scout Bronze Award by holding an adoption and donation fair at All Pets Considered in Greensboro for Red Dog Farm. They made duct tape dog collars and yarn cat toys. They also designed a rabbit care brochure for Red Dog Farm to give to new rabbit owners.
Troop Earns Bronze Award
Girl Scout Troop 2246 in Lenoir has completed their Girl Scout Bronze Award. For five months, they worked on collecting books, from baby books to adult interest, to make a reading nook at the local women's crisis shelter. They met on weekends and during the evenings to sort through the books and label them. They also bought some new decor and a nice arm chair for the reading area so that moms could sit down and read with their children.
Troop Earns Silver Award
Girl Scout Troop 30477 created a permanent exhibit honoring the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of WWII to earn their Girl Scout Silver Award. The display can be seen at the WNC Air Museum in Hendersonville and includes memorabilia, pictures and timelines. The girls hope their exhibit will help to preserve the WASP legacy and the importance of their contributions to society.
