Why Wait? Plan a Year of Parties Now
Chicago celebrated its 177th birthday this week. Take a look back at the transition from trading post to global city with these pictures from CNN. While we may currently be disillusioned with our fair city due to this winter's brutal weather, we can all appreciate a great birthday celebration.

If you know someone who would like to celebrate their birthday, anniversary, engagement, arrival of baby, last singles' hurrah or any other occasion surrounded by family, friends and food, our Event Team is ready to help. These planners love to talk parties, come up with fun menus and coordinate every last detail so you don't have to worry about anything.

If you've got a special event to plan this year, go ahead and book it now at The Chopping Block.

Plate to Impress your Guests
When planning a party, you must, of course, consider the menu and beverages. But decor should also play a part in the festivities.

Most people, including us chefs, can have trouble with platter presentation and table display. But if you follow some simple rules, you can easily create a beautiful tablescape. Our Owner/Chef Shelley Young gives tips for perfect party displays in her recent blog.

Spend Less Time in the Kitchen, More with Guests

Whether you are throwing a party for a large crowd or just getting dinner on the table for your family, we could all use some time-saving tips in the kitchen. Lifehacker recently surveyed chefs and food pros on ways to help home cooks spend less time slaving over a stove and more time enjoying the foods of your labor.

Shelley contributed to the conversation with some notes on "mise en place".
Dietary Restrictions Don't Have to be Limiting

Just because you have dietary restrictions doesn't mean you have to sit on the sidelines in our private cooking events and classes. Our staff will work to accommodate any diet. Here's a testimonial from a guest about how he was able to participate in a recent private party despite his dietary restrictions:

"I recently attended a private party and had requested to bring in my own Kosher meat (Halal meat). I have been singing the praises of The Chopping Block ever since. The chef was very considerate to my dietary restrictions. He cooked my chicken and ground beef first and placed it in a separate dish away from the others' meats. Through your accommodations and understanding, I was able to feel comfortable and not alienated from the group. Learning to cook has always been a dream of mine, but because of my restrictions, I have been turned away time after time. With The Chopping Block, I can enhance my personal growth and fulfill my dream of being a competent cook."
