Dear Drumm Run Participants, Volunteers, Cheerleaders, and Supporters,Drumm Run Group

A huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone that was a part of this year's 4th Annual event. This year's Drumm Run could not have had more beautiful weather or a more energetic, fun turnout. The recent rain had made the grass greener and flowers bloom and all the volunteers and runners were smiling throughout the morning. The list of thank you's could run on for days but here's a start: Thank you to Unity Village for providing a sparkling, nature-filled route and comfortable facilities for our runners, walkers and volunteers. Thank you to all those many volunteers, including folks from YAC, Walgreens, Drumm and GENESYS who woke up so early to help all stages of the race run smoothly. Thank you to all the fundraisers -runners and non-runners- who helped raise the most money to date, $47,427, for the kids served by Drumm Farm Center for Children.

Keep an eye and ear out for information on next year's event. Recruit one more and let's keep the momentum of Drumm Run going for 2013.

Sincerely,

Carlos Quesada

Garden Learning to Bloom This Summer

Garden LearningDrumm has recently welcomed Will Erker as new Garden Manager, as well as Garden Assistant, Lucas Signorelli. Under their tutelage, children at Drumm will have the opportunity to grow their own produce this summer. In addition to serving as a resource for fresh foods for our families on campus, a Drumm Farmer's Market Stand will sell harvested items to the public. Will also plans to welcome sheep and chickens to Drumm this spring.

Donated Cottage to Land at Drumm

Garden Cottage

The Kansas City Home

Builders Association, in conjunction with the Kansas City Home and Garden Show have graciously donated a garden cottage for Drumm. The Show also featured Drumm Farm Center for Children as the focus of their Kid's Corner. Over 15,000 people attended the show this year. The cottage, originally constructed inside of Bartle Hall, will serve as our gardener's new home, once it is rebuilt on the Drumm Campus. The addition of this building will free space in Berkemier House so Drumm may host another foster family in the coming year.

Local Girl Scouts Donate to Drumm

Girls Scout Troop

Local Girl Scouts and their families met at Drumm this month to donate cookies and items for the children and families here on campus. The girls toured the campus, checked out the playground, and learned about the great things happening at Drumm. We appreciate their thoughtfulness, and we're excited to continue partnering with this generous and civic-minded group of girls!

Welcome Home!

MO National GuardDrumm Families and Staff would like to give a heartfelt welcome home to our own Sgt. Eurik Hunt. Eurik spent the last year stationed in Africa, serving our country in the National Guard. We would also like to recognize his brave family, who remained here at Drumm, serving our kids, while Eurik was deployed. We deeply appreciate their service to Drumm and our country, and are happy to have them all back together here at Drumm.

We're Almost There!

Thanks to the hard work of our Director of Community Outreach & Special Initiatives, Laura Vernon, and the many generous donors who support Drumm Farm Center For Children, we are just 10% away from reaching our capital campaign goal for the renovation of Drumm's historic Swinney Hall. It's not too late to be recognized on our Donor Wall, as this project comes to a close.

If you would like more information on how your name can become a permanent part of this historic renovation, please contact Laura Vernon 816.373.3434.

Business Expo a Success!

The Independence Chamber of Commerce held its annual Business Expo on March 8, 2012.  Drumm Farm Center for Children participated with a booth,   debuting our new Drumm display, featuring photos of our kids and families.

The Expo is an opportunity for both businesses and non-profits to present their message to the public.  In addition to the business-to-business networking with other seventy-five booth holders, the Expo provides participants a chance to share updated information about their organization with the nearly 500 community members who attend.

Congratulations to Barb Bellew, of 1st Mid-America Credit Union, winner of our booth's give-away; a gift certificate to V's Italiano Ristorante.  Barb generously donated the certificate back to Drumm to be used by one of our parent couples for a night out.  Many thanks to Barb and to V's.

Junior Service League Hosts Taco Bar

JSL Logo

Thank you to the Junior Service League of Independence for hosting a fabulous taco bar for the children and families at Drumm. It provided a great time of fellowship for our families... And the left-overs served as excellent late night snacks for our "Bottomless Pits" (the Teenagers!).

If you, or an organization you are involved in, would like to host a Drumm Family Dinner Night, please contact Heather Saak 816.373.3434.
