Seven Years...
| Carlea and family ringing the NASDAQ bell in March 2013 |
August 2006 seems so long ago sometimes.
But other times, it feels like it was just the other day.
It was in 2006 that Carlea Bauman began leading the Fight Colorectal Cancer team as its first executive director. With a passion and vision, she led the organization to accomplish amazing things like:
- Led the revenue growth from $340,000 in 2006 to $1.3 million in 2013.
- Grew Call-on Congress from 36 advocates in 2007 to 89 advocates in 2013.
- Strategically grew the database to 30,000 contacts interested in colorectal cancer.
- Set the course of legislative direction to unify our voice on the Hill.
- Successfully re-branded the look and feel of the organization to reflect our advocates' desire to fight for a cure.
The way she's impacted this organization is beyond measure. And as she put it to our staff, donors and advocates this week, "We've become family."
We will miss her and wish her the very best but know that she'll always be behind a cure with us.

The FDA recently approved a generic form of the oral chemotherapy pill Xeloda, a drug often used to treat late-stage colorectal cancer that has metastasized.
Read more about Generic Xeloda on our blog.
We submitted comments to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) earlier this month regarding virtual colonoscopy (CTC.) We're thankful for the opportunity to offer the patient voice and the FDA's interest in this topic.

When Mrs. Lisa Niemi Swayze (widow of actor Patrick Swayze) spoke on the impediment sequestration has on medical research at the Sept. 17 Rally for Medical Research, she thought about how her Texan husband would have addressed the topic and in a slight drawl simply said:
"Sequestration is like castration."

Advocate Casey Dalton recognized that life is short, sweet and full of moments worth dancing to. That's why she recently opened up Blue Ribbon Dresses - an ETSY boutique selling everyday princess dresses for little girls.
There wasn't a better way for Casey to remember her mom, who taught her how to sew, and raise funds in her memory for colorectal cancer.
Stop by Casey's ETSY store, Blue Ribbon Dresses, and see the magical creations she's whipping up.
Part of the proceeds will be donated to Fight Colorectal Cancer!
