May ..... Mothers' Month, the world recognizes and celebrates the family nurturer. All of us have lists of how our "mother", whether biological or not, has impacted our lives. My mother's inspiration is why I am living in Western North Carolina as we visited here as a child, the same mountains she visited as a child.
So as I hike the trails, her soul is always with me in sightings of the ferns, violets and dancing dragonflies. She still lives in Florida but is unable to visit much to my disappointment because I would like to share this new life with her. She would really like seeing the snow. Her passion for nature moves through me into the gallery. As a pediatrician, mother of eight, and queen of never an idle moment, my mother instilled dedication, determination and compassion which drives me to perfection and living to the fullest as today is all we have. So, though she and I cannot be together as often as I would like, fortunately for me, I am surrounded by her inspiration as her spirit touches my everyday passing.
May also brings us Memorial Weekend and with that the official beginning of summer. Downtown Waynesville celebrates with an annual Block Party as Main Street fills with music, dancing, food and activities Saturday, May 28th, 7-10PM. Preceding the event at 6-7PM Kids on Main provides crafting activities of all kinds for the children. Come by the gallery and your kids can create a unique button to wear.
Memorial Weekend also brings Sunday hours 1-4PM. And so the season begins with something always going on in Waynesville. Keep posted on upcoming events with this newsletter, "like" us on Facebook and the visit the website. Click Here!
"Being a mother means that your heart is no longer yours; it wanders wherever your children do" (Author Unknown). So as you wander, may your heart be filled with the love and inspiration of that person that nurtured you. And hopefully your wanderings will bring you to Western North Carolina and Twigs and Leaves Gallery. We would love to see you.
All the best ~Carrie

Art After Dark Holly Turner, Sculptor
| Holly Turner will be demonstrating at Twigs and Leaves Gallery during Art After Dark Friday evening, June3, 6-9PM. A resident of Lake Junaluska, Holly carves polymer clay into delicate figurines then adorns them in natural materials. Her work is truly amazing and a must see.
Friday evening, as you stroll through the gallery's 150+ primarily regional artists, enjoy piano music by Waynesville's Diane Wolfe and delight in the savory hors d'oeuvres.

Kelsey Loomer
Seed and Sky Wearable Art
|
For Kelsey, art is part of life. She grew up as the child of artists - a writer and a potter. From birth her creativity was nurtured as well as her love of nature. Growing up in New Hampshire, Kelsey spent hours outdoors and developed a passion for biology. She moved to WNC to study biology but the mountains and their beauty inspired her creative side. She could not deny her passion for painting and now uses nature as her inspiration.
Her art described in her own words: "Each piece in my jewelry collection begins as a mixed-media painting. From the original painting a miniature archival reproduction is made, and it is set under jeweler's resin to create a long-lasting piece of wearable art. It is always my hope that my designs serve as a connection and reminder of the natural world's infinite beauty."
